2018 January Block Lotto

The lotto is beginner friendly and is open to everyone!

Here’s the drill:

- you will have 1, 2, or 3 chances to win each month, depending on how many blocks you submit (please note that you may send in more blocks, but you will be limited to 3 chances)

- please make blocks measuring 12.5 inches x 12.5 inches (unfinished/12” finished)

- please follow all instructions (please see green hyperlink below) for the designated block pattern including color/fabric requirements

- blocks must be received by the end of the month to be included in the monthly lotto drawing

- include your name, mailing address, forum name and $1 per lotto month (not per block) to cover postage for the winning blocks

- if possible, attach your name to the back of each block or write your name in the seam allowance with a fabric pen so the winner knows who made the block (this is not a requirement, just a request)

- if possible, please post a photo of your blocks on the monthly thread (this is not a requirement, just a request)

2018 blocks are to be sent to Valarie (littlehelen_gw). She will collect the blocks, determine the winner, and send the blocks to the winner. If you need her mailing address, please contact her via email at vgmcneese (at) comcast (dot) net.

Fabric requirements for the lotto are also kept simple with the intent that you are able to use fabric from your stash. All fabric used in the lotto should be 100% quilting cotton and may or may not be pre washed. A certain amount of variation is great and it's what gives these group quilts their depth and character, but please try to stay within fabric requirements so your blocks 'play well with others'.

Notes:
- Where it says white that means solid white or white-on-white (WOW) prints that read as white

January – Mini Bow Tie – 12" Block – White/Any 1930’s Reproduction Prints (please use 4 different 30’s fabrics per block – 1 for each bowtie)

I love 30's fabrics. Unfortunately, I can't find the bin with them in it.

Oh crrand1; you put me to shame.

I am so excited to try to join in the monthly group this year. I have just pulled the bin that holds my fat quarts out to begin picking fabrics...and your already sewing!

I love the tone-on-tone white background.

Oh no, Theresa! Definitely thought of you when picking this block out. Fingers crossed that the bin will surface and you can join. Still plenty of time!

crrand1, your blocks look awesome! My photo is overexposed, so the fabrics look washed out. They are actually darker than shown in the photo and will look great with yours.

Caroline, feel free to work ahead and combine blocks when mailing to save on postage! :-)

Your blocks look lovely! I hope to make mine this coming weekend,

Do feel free to mail a few months of blocks ahead of time if that is more convenient for you. I will hold until we are ready for the appropriate month. I'm looking forward to doing the Lotto again!

I will be so happy when the basement gets repaired and everything that is now scattered all over the house can find their home. I have given up trying to find the lost.

latest word is work should start in early Jan.

I’m still in the game! I finally got into town, fighting 30 to 45 mph winds and a windchill temperature of minus -30, along with blowing snow, and slippery traffic! DH was driving.

I picked up a several fat-quarters in 1930s prints. (And had a nice dinner.)

I’m washing them tonight and hopefully ironing and cutting tomorrow.

Whoever wins my blocks will probably be able to feel the North Dakota winter freezing through each patch!

We were safe, but it was an adventure.

I sent my blocks on Friday and should arrive sometime this week.

    Little Helen and All...

I am madly sewing on my three blocks at this very minute. I have all the pieces cut and have nearly finished sewing all the triangle sections.

I will have to call it a night soon. I cannot trim off the little triangle sections until in the morning - old eyes.

Our post office closes at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow. I will not be able to mail these until Monday morning. If I send them by Priority Mail, can they still be included with the others?

I do not want my name in the hat, but I would love to have these block included. I’ve worked far too hard on them. :)

    I’ll update tomorrow (later today!).

The colors are off; the white is really white. These fabrics were from JoAnn’s and an East Grand Forks, MN quilt shop.

I was very limited in 1930s choices.

There are two blocks with these colors.

And one block with these colors. Again, the white block is truly white!

here's what we have thus far, I'll check the mail again when I get home tomorrow

This is going to be such a cutie quilt....will pull the winner on Thursday...good luck everyone!

I just checked the tracking number again. It shows my three blocks should be delivered “by 8 p.m.” Wednesday.

That will bring the total up to 14; I can’t wait to see the finished quilt!

Thanks for posting the group photo! Such sweet blocks!!!!

I did manage to find some fabrics and mailed three blocks off some time ago. I don't recognize any of the pictured ones as mine. And I forgot to take a picture.

Did they ever arrive Val? Or is Canada post having a feud with USPS? The long delivery time makes sending anything stateside a problem.
