Agree with Dan. In fact it is such a common thing it has its own FAQ over on the Growing from Seed forum here. Its existence is normally a sign of excessive moisture in the soil. If that isn't due to rain then it is from over watering.

I should add that while the fungus is harmless to plants, overwatering is not. If your plants start dying, it isn't because of the fungus, but probably because of root rot.

Thanks for your comment. I water the plants may be twice a week or once sometimes...Also when I water the quantity is not much. The pots have drainage holes as well. I need to be more mindful of watering.

It is your soil. It looks like it was meant to be used in ground, not in containers, and is much too dense. Over on the Fruit forum I saw you were having issues with strawberries in this same soil. You need a potting mix that has some pourosity to it and is much better draining.

Well, the issue is surface moisture. I've never seen a mix that only gets watered once or twice a week and doesn't dry out on the surface. That your does not may indeed indicate a serious drainage issue.

To be honest, the plants were fine till end of November. I moved to a different apartment during first week of December and after that the problems started. Infact my old place was north facing balcony so the plants would get only partial evening sun but my new place is South facing and has morning and afternoon sun. I could not figure out the cause of the issues with the plants. Iinitially I attributed it to the weather getting colder in December.

Kinda screwy that these plants get a lot of sun, but get watered rarely, and the soil surface doesn't dry out. If white fungus bothers you, just water less and let the surface dry out. For a mature plant, moist soil an inch or more deep is all you need.

Don’t feel bad, I’m having the same problem! I live in St Louis MO zone 6 I guess and I added three buckets of water to both plants in two large pots! It’s been raining here in buckets, I think I’m causing it to rain so much! I too have the white fungus so my mum suggested not to water it for a few days letting the sun dry both pots out completely! I never had a green thumb and never once grew anything in my life! I’m mad and frustrated and feel like throwing out both containers and just purchasing artificial flowers for the patio! Mine hasn’t even begun to start growing and I just feel defeated like ok I’m done! I’ll see what happens if nothing then I quit!
