I agree, since you say you can’t change it live with it until you can ( change the backsplash ). It’s not horrible, I’ve seen worse, but I think you realize that something much simpler would have been better. There are way more important things to worry about than your backsplash, good luck :)

We’ve all made design mistakes ( maybe even the pros occasionally ). I think if you place some simple, not patterned , accessories in there it might look fine. You’re focusing on the backsplash because there’s nothing else in there now.

It looks like you are wearing a plaid shirt with striped bottoms. It looks bad. You have 2 busy patterns that are competing with each other.

If you are unhappy, remove the backsplash.

it cut me off before i was going to say, you picked 2 brown doo doo shades for both backsplash AND counter. almost any color might look bad if the patterns are too similar.
not to mention your cabinets are also dark brown
it really is not flattering
all you can do is live with it

Put your blender and mixer and canisters and coffee maker on the counter. They may help camouflage the backsplash until you are more used to it. It certainly isn't the worst backsplash I have seen.

agree, it's not the worst. and it's not horrible. at least the colors all match. camouflage w/counter stuff. potted plants, a blender or coffee maker in the corner,,if you only see a little of it, it won't be as bad.

It's not tragic! You have a beautiful countertop and that's the most important! I don't like too many appliances on a counter, but I would put a large plate or a nice tray against the wall, or some other nice object - a kettle, vase, or a jar, etc., so the backsplash would be less visible and you will be able to live with it until you will be ready to change it.

If you can't live with it and you can't change it, then maybe you should move.

With such a small picture is is hard to be sure but I thing the white window trim (and wall?)is like a beacon drawing the eye to your problem and making the colors of tile and backsplash look drab...if possible paint that area to match the lightest shade in the counter and backsplash...

Yes, the backsplash does not complement the counter top. If you can't change it, why not try to paint it? It wouldn't be a permanent solution, but it could get you past a year or two when you could have it removed.

What color is your floor? Without knowing.....I would say the tile needs to be light. I'd pick a plain subway tile that pulls a color from your granite. I'm not a decorator.

I could prob find 50 others that would work, but this gives you an idea. pick a color from the granite and do a larger format than what you have. I did post a linear brick glass tile, but it's all one color (white) so it works.

Computer monitors are not great at color - but what I am seeing of your floor tile concerns me. Can you pull out a few pieces and put it next to your cabinets? Take a picture in the daylight. It looks cool and gray while your cabinets and countertop are warm and more in the brown tones. Trying to mix cool tones and warm tones gets people into a lot of design dilemmas.

ok,,that's better. scratch the ivory, tan or cream tile recommendations. your kitchen lighting throws off very warm tones causing the picture to look very yellow. I can see it isn't. Perhaps changing out your under cabinet lighting to a cooler temperature bulb will help w/coloring.

It seems that the tile ....backsplash.....and floor.....(expensive and permanent additions)...are not in sync color wise and are really too subtle and difficult to make valid suggestions from photos...on site advice from a colorist/decorator may offer other changes to tie them together better....

today when i went to see the kitchen i saw that its not looking horrible but i won't say that its not even good.

Mary, well, I understand you didn't like the plain tile, so you chose what you have. But you don't like it because it's not plain, it's busy. Some of the tiles I posted are not really plain. but you can't have a busy mosaic or small shaped tile. it will fight w/your countertop.

So, either live w/what you have, or pick a plain(er) tile.

It's busy, but if you can't change it, that's okay. When you put everything you need on a daily basis on the countertop, you won't notice it anymore.

No, sorry to say it looks terrible. The patterns clash and the colors are off. Better to change it now, take the $$ hit and move on. I'd use a plain medium color backsplash, no pattern, all the same color, perhaps in taupe, gray, or off white. No mosaics or thin tile--too much grout. Use a 2 x 6, 3 x 6, 4 x 8, or 6 inch square size.

I agree with shande3. Take out the backsplash and paint the area a light color that will help simplify and soften the busy countertop and dark cabinets. Use a scrubbable paint and maybe add some lighting under the cabinets. If you're like a lot of us, you spend a lot of time in the kitchen. It's a room that you, no doubt, are in often and it will be a shame not to feel comfortable in that space. Paint is an easy fix and you can then take your time to decide what to do next. Or, take a sample of your tile to a paint store and see if it might be feasible to paint your backsplash a solid light color.
