It looks pretty! I don't have one so no tips from me.:) I only have the regular potted ones in an arrangement with white flowers and they look like they won't last too long. One of my neighbors had poinsettias planted in shade and they lasted some time.

I went to a plant sale where one of the vendors had mostly everything regular plants formed like trees, I bought a shrimp plant made into a tree and it lasted for a while.

I don't really know anything about growing them as far north as you are, but they grow them commercially in Stuart, so I would think you should be okay, failing a heavy freeze.

Never grew a standard, but we had a bunch of regular ones planted along the south side of our house in Miami many years ago and they thrived there. However, they are prone to huge, ugly cutworms that scared me and grossed me out so much as a child that I've never like poinsettias since, so be vigilant. They blend in as well as they do in tomato plants.

Thank you both for your comments and input...I've grown a regular one next to my wall and cover it up for 8 weeks every year from Oct-Dec. It's about 5 years since I planted it and it is still alive. I planted it close to a porch light though that's why I have to cover it up every night. I planted this one in a darker part of my yard underneath some Oak trees that gets a few hours of morning sun and afternoon shade. Hopefully I will not have to cover it up as the tree's canopy will keep it dark at night...Wish me luck!!

Here is the one I planted in the ground 5 years ago...
