It should be centered, was it centered on the plans and/or drawings? Did they mention it when just the cabinet base was in, that should have been noticed by contractor then for sure. Not sure that there is any easy fix now $$$ :(

From this angle it looks like the cabinet is centered, but the sink cutout isn't centered in the cabinet. Is that a trick of perspective or is that accurate?

Would drive me crazy btw. My sink isn't exactly centered but we could mitigate it with asymmetrical upper cabs, a 70/30 split sink and four pendants so the middle of the window isn't super prominent or noticeable. With your small area and symmetrical sink that is not an option.

Lindsey could be correct. If the photo was taken with the OP just slightly off to the left, the cabinet would look off center in the pic....so it’s hard to tell. If the cabinet is properly centered under the window, then it’s the countertop guys who messed up.

Whoever designed the kitchen needs to be dealing with this, I do not think this is camera angle but a poor design. the cabinet is not centered .

The cabinet is not centered, the granite company centered the sink within the cabinet just as they should. I would talk to your contractor and see what you can come up with together.

The time to catch this was in the drawing stage, not when they've already installed cabinets and countertops. If you signed off on the drawings, I'm not sure what recourse you have at this stage.

Sometimes the room measurements force a choice between a centered sink with poorer storage and several fillers, or an off center sink and better use of full cabinets with fewer fillers. This is something that should be called out in the design phase so that you can make the choice yourself. I'm currently doing a project where the homeowner was fine with the sink center being 1" off, because that meant the difference between a 12" drawer base with 4" of filler, and a 15" drawer base with the needed 1" of filler against the wall being used in the design. But, the homeowner made that decision, and it is called out on the signed design documentation so that the installer and everyone else knows that it's 1" off center

This is a big off-center mess. Get your contractor on it immediately, whoever designed the kitchen needs to make it right!

Moving the window a few inches to center it might be the lesser of all evils in this project. Talk to the contractor ASAP and good luck!

too late now. the stone was cut. how in the hell did someone not see this?? the sink base isn't centered on the window. should have forgone the little drawer/door on the left and had a larger sink base.

I am not fussy, but that would bother me....a lot!

without seeing the whole kitchen, and the original drawings that you approved, it's hard to say.
there's a large filler between the sink base and the cabinet to it's left. is this in your drawing?
if the upper and lower cabinets are symmetrical, chances are that you are the only one who will notice the off center sink.
a bigger photo of the whole wall would help.
and, don't move the window. it's centered properly, and that is what guests will see, not the sink...

Change your sink to a 60/40, offset your faucet, and you'll hardly see it. Break up the symmetry deliberately.

That probably would be the best solution but that sink cut out is going to make that difficult and whoever it was that thinks moving the window would be the best solution needs to get a grip on reality. This was a design mistake and the designer needs to step up and own it

The granite company set the sink base cabinet?

Ha. Yeah, Joseph, that didn't sound right to me, either. So now the sink will be off-kilter from the center of the base cabinet. Something went haywire here.

I think what the op is saying is that the base cabinet is actually centered properly (looks off in the pic, but that’s an illusion because of camera angle). The granite guys didn’t center the sink hole properly, so this ends up being their responsibility.

I dunno, @nidnay. Looking at the top photo, the sink looks centered on the base cabinet. It's the base cabinet that's not centered on the window. But hey, if they're fixing it to her satisfaction, that's what matters.

It really is difficult to tell if something is centered when looking at photos. If you’re just slightly off center when taking the pic, everything looks completely misaligned. Either way, you’re correct....if she’s happy with the end result that’s what matters.

The cabinet must be centered under the window and the sink must be centered in the cabinet. Your design plan would start at that window and be planned from the center of the window to the left and right. If there are any spaces left at the ends of the cabinet run, 1-2" fillers are added. This will never look good. The cabinets must be adjusted before the work continues.

She hasn't seen it with the doors on yet. That sink doesn't appear to be centered in the cabinet.

Looks great now that all is solved. I actually like the second cut of the granite better- more detail at the sink area!

It should have been centered under the window. Does look like there was a filler added to the left of the sink to make the cabinet not centered. Will be a costly move to have the countertop redone. Did you look at the design plan to see if it was centered under the window?
