I might try to center your furniture by treating the fireplace and tv area as one space. Maybe you could add a built-in media area and at least paint the fireplace area the same as the built in area so they seem more like a unit.

Sectional sofa might work with L adjacent to the windows. Then put coffee place lengthwise with short side centered on the fireplace

This is a great example

get a console to stick in the spot right of the fireplace. put your tv on that or mount it on the wall above it. do a sectional type of sofa that faces the fireplace and has the shorter part w/it's back to the kitchen. Actually, a sectional w/an open chaise on one end would be ideal. against the windows you could do a few chairs.

Imagine this pic is your room and pretend the tv is next to this fireplace. set up your furniture like this. (pretend the windows are on the other side)

forget the table/stools behind the sofa. Sectional, coffee table, chair, rug...perfect.

a sofa like this without the sectional part on the right, and a longer chaise on the left side, would work.

or do the sectional against the window, but it's not ideal for watching tv

I know you didn't ask, but the blue on the fireplace, against the different wall color and tile color, really isn't ideal. The mantle is too high and just isn't working w/everything. It's too short. you need something that goes across the entire width. See Pc #2 below)

something as simple as this would work better. (in a pinch, you can paint that ceramic tile to white or black)

Are you sure you can't mount the tv over the fireplace?

this is a mantle that would look better. you can get a 2x6 solid wood board at the big stores for less than $30. stain it and put it up or do a full mantle like this one. the decorative trim is an option. simple, reclaimed wood mantle. you can paint your tile to look like this and put up some simple shiplap. something like this doesn't have to cost a lot. the cabinets and shelving are easy DIY. Remove the mantle altogether and just mount the tv up there for better symmetry.

Thanks so much for the help you guys! @Beth - the picture I posted is from when I first moved in, but I have since painted the walls a light gray, all of them, and replaced pictured mantle with a dark wood mantle, very similar to what you just created! It's coming together nicely, but this layout definitely has me thrown off! The picture format you posted is probably ideal if the couch didn't run into the kitchen island which is pretty much what I was leaning on to take this picture in the first place, if that's helpful at all, so you can tell I really can't center the living room around the fireplace. I also have a media center in the space where you put the bookshelf, and this is our main living area, so being able to watch tv is more important than being around the fireplace (especially here in TX!) :) Right now I have an L shaped couch angled diagonally like @xrofes suggested, but I don't love the layout, but I do like a sectional couch
