seating dilemma

Hello!

I am confused whether I should get a sectional or 2 sofas for our family room. We do lounge here and this is our primary space for watching tv too. This is an old sectional we had in our old house and I understand that it is very small for the space. It will be moved downstairs to our basement. Forgive the mess and boxes we just moved :). Thank you for your suggestions!

Nice house! Whether you get a sectional (and a chair) or sofas and chair(s) should depend on you and your family and how you like to hang out in that room. Both will look fine. I will say that I disagree with you that the sofa is "very small for the space". Looks just right to me. You will likely add a plant or two, some lamps, coffee table, end tables, ottomans, bookshelf, whatever and it's nice to have room for those things. Unless, of course, not. I really like that sectional - and that rug is fabulous! ( I think the rug would look better if it extended beyond the front of the furniture more. )

A sofa and two chairs. Some people like to sit on their own others like to be close. Best of both worlds. Pretty home!

A 3-4 seat reclining sofa across from the TV with a sofa table behind it; a smaller sofa to the left, and 2 comfy swivel chairs in front of the right window with a table for card-playing, snacks, laptop, etc. A nice large rug to ground the space.

How many do you seat in the room on a regular basis? I prefer two sofas or a sofa and two chairs to a sectional. They're easier to arrange and are more versatile for seating when you have company.

How many are you looking to seat? It looks like you could easily do a sofa and four chairs or two sofas and two chairs.

Gotta go with deco's answer. Doesn't that area just look comfy? Like you could plop down there and have a great conversation or just watch TV!!
