I am usually not a fan of this color cabinets but in this case I'd keep them. They are nice and look good with the rest of your kitchen.

What a pretty kitchen! I do understand you wanting to move away from the wood tones, though. To me, the room could handle some real colour. Is your carpet purple? A sophisticated shade of purple would be amazing with the dark greys and marble. A deep red would be awesome, as well as a dark sophisticated blue. What is your favourite colour? What colour makes your heart sing? Go fit it.

Just curious, why are you wanting a change? Like the finish on the cabinets is bad, the room is too dark, etc.?? From my perspective the cabinets are lovely! Previous commenters seem to agree. Warm woods paired with hard stone surfaces are trending now, moving more natural and away from industrial. But, to answer your question, you could go light grey. Pick a very light grey from the backsplash tile. But, then I would repaint your walls with something colorful because with all that grey (which you acknowledged would be a lot) it will be cold. Other changes you might consider because the room looks a bit dark, would be to improve your lighting, swap the black refrigerator for stainless, bring in an accent color like coral orange. Really though, nice kitchen! I'd make a few other changes besides painting the cabinets!

The floor is slate tile color and the fridge stove and DW are the new slate gray from GE. It looks black in the photo but it’s actually matte gray. And it’s brand new. :-) your question about why I want to paint is a good one. It’s the mix of woods that bothers me. The oak shelf would stand out more if the cabinets were painted. I do plan on adding a red oriental rug when I find one that’s affordable. Thanks for mentioning that mixing woods is starting to trend. Maybe if I just get a new rug and swap out the drawer pulls I’ll feel better.

What about a charcoal grey instead of the usual light grey cabinets? Something dark would make your backsplash and countertops pop and it would contrast against the wall color.

You seem to be trying to get a cold grey to mix with a warm wood. If you had a different hue/undertone of grey that had beige in it, you might be happier. The back splash and counter top seems to have no hue/undertone that relates to your cabinets.

A pretty blue! It would go beautifully with your counters. This is a picture of an older home (built in 1908). Your kitchen is obviously more modern but you get the idea.

I like the wood, I would try new cabinet hardware.....there proportions seem too small for your kitchen.

One is the baskets - maybe a quality spray of rusty red....? from your art... I would keep cabinets ... rug too could be colorful...

An area rug could really pull it together and help you love it! I don't mind the mixed woods at all! New hardware would also match your nice updates! How about this mix of colors? Warm tones and neither too traditional or contemporary? The quality isn't top-notch but synthetic will hold up and clean well. 5' X 7' size? I can email you the link if you'd like. That is a beautiful rug! I think I have my heart set on oriental though. And, I think I will paint my cabinets white (eventually - but this discussion has been wonderful in convincing me that it's not "urgent"). It's images like this that really inspire me.

I love those cabinets! The whole kitchen looks warm and inviting, I'd keep it.

Maybe just paint the shelving unit the same color as your trim, but I would leave the cabinets alone other than new hardware. I painted my wood cabinets in my last house and the upkeep is much more than stained. Frequent touching up will be necessary no matter how durable the paint. I have the same color as you in my current house and I would like to change, but not going to due to durability. You can make a great improvement with just the right paint color on wall and a rug.
