I like the brown, I vote hardwood.

I will also for hardwood. Not only it will give the warmth of your living room, it will also provide you the feel of a traditional design.

First have the kitchen floor checked by a Pro. They will be able to match the wood specie and determine if a match is possible. If you want the new hardwood to "match" the old you will most likely need to have all the kitchen stain sanded out, then the new stain applied to both.

Definitely the same flooring. Is it site installed hardwood or engineered?

You have a very nice room! Both carpet and hardwood look good to me. It's a very personal choice.

Seeing this picture, this room from this point of view I would go for carpet. It gives an optical balance. For me adding a rug gives to many lines in this room ( but I'm not a fan of rugs).

Whatever you choose, you"ll have a lovely room to live in.
