Can’t decide...should I paint barn door???

I’m thinking about installing a mirrored barn door in our new construction master bedroom. The rest of the interior doors will be black 5 panel doors and the walls will be white.

Would you suggest painting the barn door black as well or would stained look ok? (See photo) There will be 3 black 5 panel doors in the bedroom. (Transitional farmhouse is the style I’m going for).

Also, I have not used a barn door before and this door will be opening and closing a lot - is it going to be very noisy or difficult to manage? Will I regret this????

I love barn doors! I'd suggest staining the door. Your example looks beautiful with the mirror. Is it going between the master bedroom and bath? I have a barn door in that location but it is usually discouraged because you do not get a tight seal for noise/possible odor. However, we love our barn door. I love how it feels when it slides across and I like the architectural look of a big barn door vs. just another doorway. If your doorway is going to be a standard size, you can always switch to a normal door.

Is the barn door for the entrance to the bedroom (or the master en suite?). You might regret it as barn doors do make a noise, and light can come through the sides, though I suppose that depends on the design.

We have a pantry door hung with barn door hardware and it is very easy to open and close. However, it is noisy, easy to pull to hard and have it bounce off the bumpers. Your door looks beautiful, but I would only use on a closet or secondary space and not a main door to your master or to the bathroom.

Yes, I was thinking about putting the barn door in the master bedroom entering into the master bath. You all have made very good points and I think I may regret that location later.

So....here is the bedroom layout. Would a mirrored barn door for each closet look crazy? Any suggestions for other barn door styles that will fit with my target style?

Sure, why not on the closet doors? You'd have to visualize if you wanted that much mirrored space in the room and what the mirrors would reflect. You'd see the mirrors mostly from the bed and when exiting the master bath. Do the doors have to be mirrored? Also, I would not immediately disgard the bathroom door idea if you love it. The light is not an issue with a barn door sized properly to cover the opening and your toilet is tucked away from the door. Our layout is somewhat similar in terms of bed placement and orientation to the master bath. Our bed is farther away from the bathroom door but our toilet is right next to the bathroom door opening and our barn door was installed with a little more gap to the wall than it needed. Even so, we still love it. Door movement and noise will depend on your hardware.

We have a barn door between our master bath and bedroom. It's not noisy nor does it let in light. I think it's the perfect location for a barn door. I prefer the look of the oak in your image with the black hardware. if you paint the door black the hardware will not stand out. Our doors are painted white to match the walls. I have not installed any hardware handles.
