The seller told me that the plant dries when she places it in the sun or doesn't water it. I don't know how reliable this is or whether dry plants can do that...

Looks somewhat like - but not exactly like - Euphorbia platycladus. But that would not require any misting.

You're right, there's no hurry, I just like to ID plants before I kill them by overwatering or drying them out... but I supposed that unpotting would stress it more than it is (if it is alive).

Ooo, maybe... it does look like it, a lot! Leucophyta brownii looks bigger, though, and... "more alive" --- I'm still dreading the fact my plant is dead. Ither notable difference, my plant is tiny, like maybe five or six inches wide, two inches tall, and the seller said it didn't seem to grow. Could it be a dead leucophyta brownii?

That would be my expectation.

Sigh. I'm going to observe it for a little while and see if it reacts in any ways to watering and light exposition. Just in case. Because thinking I bought a dead plant is disappointing.

Six silver, though I believe it is the seller's responsibility to have some knowledge of their inventory, the ultimate burden should be borne by the buyer.

There is nothing about your plant that remotely suggests a bromeliad (Spanish moss), so no need to go down that rabbit hole.

It definitely is my fault, I should have done my research before buying it... although the seller should have known more about that plant, as it is her job. But it doesn't really matter in the end; I just want to know what it is and, most important, if it is alive.

I currently live in Dakar, Sénégal, in West Africa. Cool season is between 63°F and 79°F, hot season between 68°F and 86°F. It's a tropical, hot and humid climate.

When the seller doesn't know the correct name of the plant, that alone is a "red flag".
