Addition/Renovation Complete!!!

You can see from the few before pictures that our home was divided into boxes of clearly defined rooms. The plan was to enlarge the space with a 600 sq ft rear addition across the length of the home and remove many of the walls in between to further open the space. I included some of the before & after photos herein. Enjoy!!

Lovely transformation! But I'm really curious about your original kitchen. What era was it? One side looked a bit like a 1950's diner, but the built in appliances on the other side made it look newer. Was it a modern kitchen trying to look vintage?

The tile is a 4x8 pillow cut diamond in white. It may be from Cobsa(?) It does give off a great shimmer.

    absolutely gorgeous! love the colors

Feeny - The house is in Central NJ and was built in '80 as a center hall colonial. I honestly don't know what feel they were trying to achieve. The former cabs were well constructed. Some of the appliances were updated but the space was small - 12' x 16'. We lived with it for 3 yrs before we started construction. It helped us learn what we wanted in our new space.

Thanks for the info, shalago. It was a bit of a mystery to me--channeling that vintage 1950's diner vibe, but with details and condition not looking original. A curious choice for an 80's colonial! Your transformation, OTOH, looks not only beautiful, but also well-conceived for the space.

feeny- thank you! The style actually looked very 80's/90's with the white lacquered cabinets/ track lighting and black granite. That was the style of decorating a while ago I guess!

It looks FANTASTIC good job on the renovation!

Love that you were able to open up all that space yet still maintained so much character in each space/room. Very nice!

Love the white cabinets!!! I made a mistake of deciding on a "fancy white" which infact looks a little yellow! However, I'm making some furniture choices now. Where are the dining room table and the console under your TV from? Everything is just beautiful!!! Enjoy!!!

    Beautiful!
Jule82- thank you! the kitchen/dining table is from Restoration Hardware. But beware: The table is UNFINISHED. We were under the impression that this particular table was finished. When we received it, we immediately got it polyed in a matte finish. It did not change the color or look of the table- we were pleasantly surprised. Having a table with small kids unfinished was not an option or us so putting several coats of poly on it made a big difference in maintenance. If you don't poly it and it's left unfinished, you cannot wipe it or clean it with a wet sponge. The console under the TV is a Llillian August pc.

Thank you for getting back to me AND for the advice ;). Your home really is just beautiful! Everything fits so well together. Did you work with a designer? I'm having such trouble coordinating furniture- and I absolutely HATE "sets" lol. All the pieces in your home compliment each other so nicely without being "matchy, matchy"
you're welcome. I know how it is on houzz when you have a question and nobody replies. Frustrating! We did not use a designer. The kitchen and dining area we did on our own. The owner of the place where we picked all of the furniture pcs in the family room worked with us in making decisions and picking fabrics/etc....

mgreen1 - The ottoman is a Vanguard. It's 5' x 5' square. perfectly large so everyone can rest their feet up. We chose fabric, nail heads, etc. TX!

Nikkispade - The backsplash is a 4x8 pillow cut diamond in white. The manufacturer may be Cobsa. We found it in a back room of a tile supplier in central, NJ when my husband went to use the restroom. He brought it up front and they did a search. It was pure luck and it is the first thing people comment on when they enter. For the fireplace we used 1x2 venatino marble. We were particular in searching for marble sourced from Italy. For us it made all the difference in the coloring, veining and character. Good Luck and Thank you!!!

Wow! What an incredible find! I did a Cobsa search but couldn't find that tile on their website... maybe it was discontinued? I wont give up though :) Thanks for all of your help, it is very much appreciated!!

Hi! I know you completed your project a while ago, but I’m curious how you like your countertops? They are beautiful and exactly what we are looking for. Unfortunately a lot of our local stone places don’t carry this “classic white”. Hoping I can hunt them down. Thanks, and you did a lovely job on your home remodel :)
