I definitely agree that you should keep the runners, I absolutely love them and they look great on your stairs. I read your older post about not loving your wallpaper and I also think that you should bite the bullet and remove it. It just seems to be frustrating you and you clearly love the rugs so you should sacrifice the paper. I'm thinking just white instead of the paper but I'm also sort of thinking that a different paper that compliments the rug could be nice...but that is a more specific question that's outside my design abilities. I'm interested to see what other's suggest. Whatever you do, good luck!

Love the runner on your stairs but would do something different in hallway to coordinate. Remove wallpaper and paint or rewallpaper to update.

Yes! @Samantha M I so agree with you. The wallpaper has just been too much of a stress for me! All I do is stare at it while I clean, cook, walk in and out of my house! I even dream it! lol! It's not worth it. I think I totally am gonna remove. Atleast in the hallway. so I can keep my runner! lol

Not to ruffle any feathers here, but I think its the runners that need to go. I love the soft wall treatment in the entry. The runners are heavy and boring. If you picked something lighter the whole space would pull together beautifully.

I would have kept the wainscoting plain white with wallpaper above it.

Search 'striped runner in photo' here on houzz. Almost every picture shows plain stark walls. Let those runners be the show. Very little else needed.

I like the runners, but I think the one of the floor is too narrow. Plus, the heavy black border makes it look even smaller.

And yes, the runners seem to clash with the wallpaper. I'd remove it.

What are you doing? Contemporary; French Country, Victorian? Right now you have is a mix of all three. You need to define the look you want and then act accordingly.

The wallpaper says salon, and the rug says basement stairs. One or the other has to go.

Your installing three separate runners with distinct borders at each end instead of one continuous piece? I am not sure how that would look, I would have concerns. Yes, to removing the wallpaper unless you were go with a different stair runner or leave the steps bare. I would prefer two different runners than the same one repeated on the steps and in the hall.

@decoenthusiast That's a great question! lol! Quite honestly, I don't know what I'm doing! I just kinda put things together that I like. Im no designer. All the styles you have named are actually ALL a favorite of mine. But i really dont know what im doing. Maybe some of you could actually help me figure out what style im creating since I still have more rooms to renovate! lol! I just kinda pick stuff I like. Here are some photos of the rest of my home. I would love the help on what kind of style I should stick too.

It's your home, you spend most of your life in there, you might as well put the work into making it exactly the way you want it. I love those rugs. The wallpaper isn't awful but I can tell it definitely is not your style, and it certainly clashes with your lovely rug.

Maybe putting a name on your style will help. It looks to me that you tend to gravitate towards the modern farmhouse look.

Contemporary French with a little country is what I’m seeing and I like it. It’s fresh and upbeat.

Remove the wallpaper AND chair rail from the hallway. It’s too choppy...
Paint the walls a light neutral or the DR color. Your dining room is pretty but again not fond of the wallpaper....

Seeing the rest of your space I vote keep the stairs simple and no runner and take wallpaper down in hallway area to powder bath and paint cream/white.

What a beautiful home! You definitely have a style that comes through. A bit eclectic, which keeps it interesting, but rather French Country Farmhouse. You just need to tweak a bit. I like the rugs, not a fan of the wallpaper.

Runners more like these would look great in your space and keep things lighter.

Melissa, uniqueness and individuality is what you have created. Everyone does not have the same taste so go with what feels right to you after recieving the information to validate what you feel is best. We all just have opinions and honestly there is NO wrong design if you like it. Enjoy and have fun. BTW I like your bathroom.... Very personal and you can tell you have created a home to gather friends and family to. Enjoy.

If this your foyer, remember that its purpose is to introduce you, your style and to hint at what to expect in the adjoining rooms. If you are undecided about the wallpaper in the dining room, then you should wait to make a decision in the hall. I would say your rooms reflect modern, French eclectic, so you can go lots of different directions. First, decide the feeling you want to create when people enter your home. If you're still uncomfortable with the wp in the dr, then you probably don't need to overdose on it by continuing it in the foyer/hall/stairwell. Personally, I find the rugs totally out of place and would take them out of the equation. Imagine them in your other rooms and I think you'll see they're not a good fit.

What is the rug made of? Wool, polyester,jute?

And I’m assuming you were going to cut and install so it appears like one long running piece on the stairs...were you going to leave the one in the hallway?

I think the black borders are too contrasting / modern for the delicate flowers.

Wallpaper in hallway is to small in scale $ fussy looking. Although the runners are nice looking unfortunately the 3 bold black strips are too wide for proportions of stairs. I would suggest finding a similar carpet and have black borders sewn to make stairs look wider.

Have you painted the hallway entry white?

I would do a similar rug style but black with white inset...looks like you have all whites and neutrals in your home..with more of a gray tone.....no gold jute anywhere so would do a black with white inset or a black Herringbone tweed.

I do love the runner, in pic below roughly with wallpaper. I think it's the gold colour that is distracting you perhaps. Maybe a striped sisal runner in the lighter tones is what's needed, then you won't have to strip wallpaper. Like your style
