What is function/decor of area on front / long side of fp?

I would consider wall art on long side only--keep the living room side clear w/large art over sofa.

My question is what is in front of your FP? Is that your foyer/entry?

Linda's right, especially if you were to recover the fireplace in something wonderful. However, you certainly can hang art there if you want to. I'd put it like this, and then provide something different but also eye-catching on the other wall, as below. That wouldn't really have to be anything you hang on the wall at all. It could be a striking piece of furniture or sculpture. Just to balance the eye appeal.

As for what art -- very difficult to suggest as we have only a glimpse of your taste. In the mockup I basically used a bit of smudgy image, but I'm think dramatic black on white, very graphic, perhaps? At least for the fireplace. You might want colour over the white sofa. What do you like? Modern, impressionist, abstract, representational, photographic, oils, colourful, subtle... ?

Your room looks great and you have good taste. I would hang some cool shallow baskets. They'll add shape, texture and a bit of contrast without being to too heavy.

I'd put a large seascape over the couch. Nothing on the fireplace. Like the way you have the TV set up now. Would not change it. Cool decor!

Thanks for all of the suggestions. When you enter the home you walk directly into the living room and stare at the fireplace to the right of the entry.

I would make the fireplace a really attractive focal point by adding a mantle on all 3 sides and layer with accessories on the widest section. You could also add some shiplap and frame per below, which would really suit room. Use warm elements and think outside the box above the couch. Create a layered room - floor lamp, throw, baskets, more pillows, etc. and leave tv as is.

Good to know front of FP is entry view. In that case, I would definitely add wall art on the entry/long front side of FP. Leave the kitchen and LR sides open.

Look for art you love, so personal. I think deep navy/blues w/ coral or bright orange would be fun. Large pieces (maybe 2 side by side) over sofa, and one over FP-- repeating colors since open view.
