That is exactly the amount I use in my Front load Bosch Nexxt.

I purchased this measuring spoon set- the two tablespoon for the Washer, the one tablespoon for my Kitchenaid dishwasher. I use powder detergent in both.

We have moderately hard water and typically run full loads in our Duet. I find that line 1 (~4T) of Tide powder or liquid is perfect for a majority of loads.

I have soft (city) water and use 2 Tablespoons (powder) for normal sized loads (medium soil). I will use another Tablespoon or two for larger or more soiled loads.

It also depends on detergent brand. Some suds up more than others so I dose accordingly.

For liquids it's about the same.

An appliance repairman told me, as he looked admiringly at my new HE washer (about 14 years ago), "You use one-seventh the water of a top loader, so you only need one-seventh the detergent." That is about 2 tablespoons.

Volume of water is only one factor. Full load in less water = same amount of soil to handle as in more water.

I have front load machines and super hard water. With my water conditions two tablespoons do not clean my clothing. I’ve experimented with many different levels and if it’s heavily soiled I need to use line two of powder or liquid detergent and lightly soiled line one of powder or liquid detergent. I have to use a water softener in addition to detergent to get things clean. Everyone’s dosage will be different.

I must be one of the "lucky ones". I have soft water here in Massachusetts and 2 Tablespoons in my FL clean everything spotless and remove all traces of the Hockey "stench" that my three kids can muster up.

I open the door mid-wash cycle cycle and the water feels slippery between my fingers. This is with both of my powdered detergents, Sears Ultra Plus and Cheer.

My well water tested at 9 (or 11?) grains hardness some years ago by a traveling softener salesman. I use 1.5 to 3 tbsp of Persil 2 in 1 liquid, 2 to 4 tbsp Persil powder, 4 to 8 tbsp Tide HE powder depending on the load size and conditions. But, I also add 2 tbsp STPP.

I usually have full loads except white sock load. I use about 5T detergent sometimes more BUT I suspect my Duet uses more water than it was supposed to...The laundry gods smiled down and took pity on me when this entire forum went on the hunt for my first FL...Roc lead the parade.

Oh I have very soft water.

Calypso & Neptune TL. I dose similarly for small to medium loads in the F&P, more for larger since it's a non-HE deep-fill agitator toploader. Also have a 2003 WP direct-drive, 1 cup of Foca powder and 1/4 cup of STPP works nicely for a max fill on it. Yeah, I have four usable washers in the house ... five if the GE compact is considered.

how much detergent to use is affected by several factors like the capacity of the washer, water hardness, degree of soilage, etc, but here are my experiences.

washer: Bosch next 500 FL 8 kg/17.6 lb capacity ~4.0 CF with onboard heater

water hardness: moderately hard

detergent: Persil original liquid, Tide Free liquid and powder

A normal load usually fills the FL tub - 2/3 to full.

It's a combination of weight and volume, low to normal soilage laundry from daily wear.

I use 1.5-2.0 tablespoons (equal to 22.5-30.0 mL) of any of the above detergents, which is 1/2 to 2/3 of line 1 (~45 mL on most brands).

Sometimes I also include the same amount of baking soda with each wash.

1/4 cup of vinegar in lieu of FS.

Typically I do profile washes from cold water heated to warm, hot or XXsanitary temperatures.

hot or XXsanitary are used for towels and bedding like duvet covers, bed sheets, mattress protector, pillow cases.

I only use cold water on "delicate" for wool sweaters, tops, pants, silk ties, etc.

I do not use pods as their dosage is too much for my use.

Each pod contains ~45 mL of detergent.

My detergent brand varys depending on what I'm washing, soil level, and my mood.

Amount of detergent also varys depending on soil level, water temperature, and load size.

I did 2 full loads (towels & bed sheets) on the weekend with 2.0 TBSP liquid.

This morning I compared some towels in the bathroom that were washed from this and 2 weekend ago (those towels were washed with 1.5 TBSP).

The towels from 2 weekend ago were softer than those washed this weekend.

After doing laundry, I did a XXsanitary cleaning of the washer and there were bubbles present, so I suspect there was soap residue left this time.

Maybe the appliance repair recommendation is for 4.0 CF, so I'm going to experiment with using 1.0-1.5 TBSP (15.0-22.5 mL) to find my sweet spot.

And the washer internals will look like this from the water hardness minerals and laundry soils adhering to the underside parts, not being sequestered and flushed away by a sufficient concentration of detergent. These are photos of machines I've disassembled and cleaned. None of the smutz generated suds when flushed with water so it's not detergent residue.
