Help with very large windows in my new sewing room...

We're building a new house, and would love some ideas for the window treatments. Here is the picture of it so far. The room is 20'x 22'. There is a vaulted ceiling that will have a light/medium plank wood cover (see picture). The 2 plate glass windows are 6 feet wide each (that wall faces future neighbors). That is the wall my 14' long arm will sit and will have drop down task lights. To the right is a closet that will house my noisy 6 needle embroidery machine.

The wall on the left has a 6' wide window in the middle with a 3' wide window on each side (faces the back and trees). It will also have movable pendant task lighting. I have a 9' long desk I have my sewing machines on that will sit in front of these windows, so I'm thinking shorter treatments?

We currently don't have any neighbors, but they've broken ground, so there will be some eventually.

I'm not crazy about blinds, but thinking sheers for some privacy and softening?? Here is one thought?

TIA!!

I can't help you concerning window treatments, I have only vinyl Venetian blinds (white) on all my windows and I love them. I had them custom made so they aren't the cheapo ones and they all have a nice header on them. They are simple and give a clean, airy, uncluttered feeling and can be completely raised if I want an unobstructed view to outdoors. But I just had to comment on what a beautiful house! Your sewing room is enormous, and your kitchen is wonderful! You must be walking on air.

What a beautiful sewing/quilting space! You will really enjoy the light as you work there. The sheers and the quilty valance should work during the day. If you need total privacy during the night you may need blinds or heavier curtains.

What direction are you facing? How bad/bright/hot do you think the sun might get?

Roman blinds/shades would work. If you're feeling ambitious you can make them yourself.

You won't have to worry about arctic cold fronts. :)

Awesome space! Love the idea of the quilted valance, but I have to say, I think the Venetian blinds are the way to go, you can let in light, or shade it as needed, works no matter what the condition maybe.

congratulations... a new house is sooo much fun!

That is going to be an amazing space. Perhaps the top down / bottom up honeycomb shades would fit the windows? There’s probably a fair amount of linty type stuff generated and window treatments that are easy to vacuum...as well a white or off white color would not affect your color perceptions...love the quilted valance! Beautiful space.

Gorgeous. How about solar shades with or without a valance. They can give you privacy, sun protection and still allow light to come in.

Thanks, everyone!! You guys are thinking along the same lines as I am. I have thought about the shades (of any variety, and making them), but wondered about the width of the windows?? I may wait until we move in to decide for sure?? The windows are facing more north/east and won't get a lot of hot sun and I won't need too much for privacy (yet). I don't like looking at the "black holes" that night time windows create. I really like the roman shade or top down, bottom up shade idea for the living room/dining room.

I may do some sheers for the wedding and then use them elsewhere? They aren't very expensive, so I haven't lost much if I don't like them. We plan on using the sewing room as the "dance floor" for the wedding, so some window treatment would be nice for that (it's an evening wedding, so maybe a wall of lights, too??)
