Thank you for these comments. This is helpful. I have heard that they can be difficult, but I am also happy to hwar the positive experiences. For bellburgmaggie, access to the back yard is just to the left of the picture in the living room.

I agree that it makes a stunning kitchen. I am equally happy with the route I took which is a round counter height gorgeous table and 6 upholstered chairs. It's different, but easy to sit at. I find the higher table gives a kind of restaurant feel and that along with being a round table plus comfortable upholstered chairs lends to a long dinner and conversation for the family. Many compliments on the area. All of it combined also cost leaa than the $5000 banquette.

i love banquettes. million ways to do them. do a google image search of them to see what you like. You also have enough room in that spot to where you could slide in and out easily.

I think your space looks ideal for a banquette. A round table would help with that. They are harder to get into but awesome for kids. You can cram a lot of kids on a banquette...lol..

It looks like it could be the perfect place for one, but you would most likely need a round table.

How about giving it a trial run? Put a picnic bench on the left wall for a while, and see how you like it.

I was thinking not of a U-shape, but benches on just the side, like a restaurant booth. Or keep chairs on the right side.

I do think a banquette/booth calls for a different table, though - one without legs at the corners.

Banquettes are great dining option! Given your space you can go with either a straight or L-shaped style. Keep in mind that it doesn't necessarily need to be built in, they work best with a pedestal table, and you don't want it to be too long so that it's not difficult to get seated onto.
