when you change the living room furniture, do not get another love seat, get a sofa and 2 chairs or if you need it, 2 sofas and add more chairs as needed.

if you do not entertain with the tv, i would put the 2 comfy chairs facing the tv and the others facing each other.

I am having a bit...ok, a lot of an issue with the differences in the fireplace mantel and adjoining TV cabinet height, color and style. (the mirror leaning on mantle makes it worse). The eye doesn't know where to go!

Can you unify with molding, color, material? Also, that awkward angled wall (where the art is) should be disguised, not highlighted with art. Or just put an angled chair in front.

Decide which is your focal point: TV or fireplace, then position furniture appropriately. Be sure to add a lot more color and/or texture to give it personality.

What is the dimensions of the end of stair wall to the other end. You definitely need a sectional where the chaise part would flow on the left

We really need to see the entire TV/fireplace wall. What is to the left of the fireplace?

Sofa centered on fireplace, recliner to the left, two small swivel chairs on the built in side. Plant in the corner, art on the back wall (which I didn't hang), and the Basset hound can go anywhere.

The TV and the Fireplace are fighting for attention. Normally your fireplace would be the focal point of the room. I would consider mounting the TV over the fireplace and decorate with that as the focal point.

Another option is to have the TV hidden behind a door (you would need to add) and have the TV on a swing arm so it's adjustable and can be pulled 'out' from the it's current placement. When not in use, it can be hidden behind the door.

It would be great if you remove the mirror and take another picture. The mirror, I feel, is throwing everything off.

A 3-seat sofa is almost always a good choice. A loveseat is almost always a bad one. Sell it on Craig's List and replace with 2 comfy armchairs. Consider placing the sofa facing the wall, perpendicular to the fireplace. Then add a pair of armchairs facing the TV/FP wall and angle the lounger right of the fireplace. Get a larger rug so all the furniture can be anchored on it.
