Live with the house for a while before spending any money. Make sure the layout and the appliances work for YOU. Then decide whether you want to make so many changes that a gut makes more sense, or whether just a few cosmetic changes would do the trick. I don't ever believe in spending money decorating around something one truly dislikes. Start saving to replace the disliked item!

If aesthetics are your only issue, redo the splashback. If what's pictured is all there is, it won't even be costly. White would be too harsh. Go for a simple cream subway instead.

Lovely space. It's very warm, so you don't want to go stark white on the backsplash. I would go with a cream/off white. We just put in a cream colored crackle tile from Virginia Tile.

I agree with no stark white for the backsplash. Do you have any undercab lighting? Looks like you can use some more overhead lighting, too.

Maybe consider using silver/nickel hardware. If you plan on redoing the kitchen in a few years in anyway, then wait and do it all at one time. You will save money that way.

I would do a subway tile with a creamy tone to it, maybe a hint of darker grain just slightly to bring in the darker tops with still keeping it light.

Yes...I would do a simple off white subway tile (not too beige) more like a off white,,,not a stark white. I like your hardware but I think simple stainless pulls would lighten things up. It is very nice so I would not pour a lot of money into it. These changes might be all you need.

If you consider changing your countertops we would highly recommend on doing these 2 together since removing the counter can damage your new backsplash.

Do you like the dark cabinets or thinking to change it also? If you tend to keep it, we would use natural stone or brighter colors, for example:

If you'd consider going white, we feel like white subway backsplash is very classy and can work well for resale proposes. BTW - just be minded that white countertop will also show almost everything :)

I agree with several comments(all in once lol)

Say, you change your backsplash now. Shouldn't be white-white has no relation to your very warm flooring. So you're already in minimum cream realm. Or very warm greige(which can be found in your tile..from what I can see on my screen. MIght be mistaken)

Then when it's time to choose your countertop-it should correlate to that future backsplash. Will you find light stone options that you'll love with that backsplash? Most likely you will, but will be somewhat maddenning. Talking as someone who started from tile and then went to choose a stone. Can be done; but will be hard.

Then it all works together say-what flooring will go there? Everything is coordinated to work with existing flooring. So you can still decide to tear it out-but whatever you'll put there, you'll have to account for your other elements.

So I'd suggest to live with this nice kitchen for a while as is, and think of an overall plan, rather than making one choice that'd dictate you later into other, that you maybe don't want to end up with.

I'm not a fan of small sparkly mosaics myself yet I must say that's one of the best applications of it I saw yet.

Or. You decide to live with floor and counters, and look only at backsplash, knowing very well it's locking you , to a degree, into loving your floor and counters for longer time.
