Although your wall color is lovely, the space has huge unbroken blocks of brown and black--giant TV, giant sofa, brown painting, brown sofa table. Can you turn the sofa so that the long side faces the window? That way your undersized sofa table won't look so lost. If that layout won't work, then some of the solutions below will provide some relief from all that mass of brown.

Start with a large, vertical or square painting over the fireplace. A skyscape in a very tall room can draw the eye up and provide an image with some pattern.

Once you add a new art work with some color and pattern, consider placing a throw in those colors to the back of the sofa so you're not walking into the space facing a large wall of brown.

Some very pale curtains in an accent color or the exact color of the walls will add more texture to the room.

Your sofa table seems to be a major piece of furniture since it looks like you walk from one space to another and it is right there. I'd change it out so that it is fabulous. Start switching art around. It looks like you have a colorful piece in the other room, put it in here - lean it against the wall, against the fireplace to help decide on adding more color.

Switch out the sectional for a classic seating arrangement facing the right wall, or sofas flanking the fireplace. One ex. shown below.

Wall hang the TV over a console there ( right wall).

Add a large area rug that injects some royal navy blue into the scheme.Change the now exposed hole by the fireplace into built- in shelving. Accessorize with navy, white and metallic objects. Alternately, drywall over it.

Rid yourself of the red accessories.

Replace the miniblinds with a layered window treatment that begins at the lower level of the upstairs.

Find oversized vertical art for the fireplace. Hang it.
