I would pick a piece of art that you love for that room and then pull the colors from the art.

What a beautiful home. To pick a wall paint color I would get some sample paint in the vein you like and try it out on all the walls. With so much light and windows you will want to look at the room different times of day and take into account the direction the room faces. Primarily you will need to decide if you want the room in warm or cool tones to stay in keeping with furniture color/style. Good luck.

As that is your family room I suspect you would like to enjoy the space but still make it a cosy space to gather in. To that end, I suggest you look at a warm colour -- greige or light taupe -- for the walls. Use the new colour of your sofas as the basis for the perfect choice. Curtains on the bottom windows only. Jennob's second pic is a good example of what you could do. Keep the kitchen cupboards light and make sure the lighting there is very good indeed.

what else do you have besides the leather sofa? do you have any rugs? art work? chairs? what colors do you think you will be using?

two things in there that would have to go immediately (for me) are the mini blinds and that fan. That room will be stunning if you lose those and do a few simple things.

Windows. Fireplace. those are the main focal points. Jen, above, has some nice pictures. here is another one...paint out the window trim in black and do the walls white. (here they have french doors,,,and if you can swing a glass door on both sides, perfect! make sure they're black)

I just love how this room is done. you can put your sofa along the wall like above, get a nice rug, a large coffee table or ottoman, and a few chairs. make sure to do some plants in the corner. install some light drapes or sheers and some cool artwork. rather than the mirror over the fireplace, I'd do a great canvas or large photo. Paint you brick black or tile over it. give the mantle a fresh white.

don't have an antique mirror? make one. get some antique mirror tiles and glue them to a board. frame it, lean against the wall.

if you do a white wall, consider painting your mantle a medium french blue. this color goes great w/your leather. bring in some lighter blue velvet chairs,,some warm wood accents.

if you want to go modern, tile all the way up to the ceiling and paint the wall dark

replace that fan w/a nice chandy.

Not your colours, probably not your style, and I was too lazy to repaint the walls, but I couldn't resist playing with your empty room.

Breathe dear :) Select the paint last. Ever notice ohw many paint brands there are, and how many thousands of paints each has? Add to that you can mix paints for a custom colour to? It seems overwhelming, but it actually means your wall paint can work around absolutely anything you want. You're not limited at all.

Choose everything you'll have in the space. Sofas, armchairs, rug, artwork, throw cushions, lighting, side tables, coffee table, absolutely everything.

Start with the thing you have and are keeping, or the piece you absolutely love. Work from things with thhe smallest range to choose from. Then select the rest from the broader ranges, to comliment the other choices. And choose your paint last. It's the easiest way, and the recipe for a harmonious, cohesive, and personalised space.

Of course, it's good to start with some idea of how you want the room to look, but that's not to be too rigid. You'll get there :)

So what do you have at present, what are you looking for?

Find 2-3 photos of high ceiling rooms online for inspiration. Copy the style you like. I suggest a neutral color that can go with many styles then add color with interior decor.

Greys are cooler

beiges are warmer

whites brighten

My significant other has told me he’s not moving in unless the paint is done, so unfortunately I don’t have much of a choice to wait... but will start looking at greige and tan to see what might look best.

Please don't make the mistake of rushing into it!

Paint is relatively easy and inexpensive to change, but is still not that easy that you'd realistically repaint such a large space a few months later.

If you paint now, you will inevitably end up choosing the rest of the elements based somewhat on the paint colour, rather than the particular syle you're trying to achieve, your needs, preferrencec, etc.

Paint is something you can live without for a while though. Haste makes waste, do it once, properly.

How about you tell other-half he can move in, then you can take your time and have fun decorating your space, and select paint when you're done. If he doesn't want to be present then, he can move out for the week. Assuming you have an average amount of other obligations, decorating the space in free time can take a few months.

You can go for neutrals, 'safe' colours, etc, but the really spectecular look comes from working in order, and chosing a paint to compliment other pieces, not just fade away. And should you go for a neutral and then find a lovely rug that just clashes? The other pieces of decor are generally far more permanent, you'll likely keep your sofa, rug and tables for years, move house with them, etc. Don't limit yourself not by something like paint.

If you can get that family room painted before moving in, your hubby might be happy. Painting that 2 story family room alone is not going to be inexpensive. You might want to get some quotes before moving in.

Any color will work, but just go for very pale color and you have a lot of walls and it will all be reflecting off of the walls and will intensify....if you want color then do the fireplace wall a deeper color as you have windows and a fireplace to break up the color while still adding drama to the room.

Love this room.....walls are painted one tint darker than sofa, then drama is added in a print curtains, and blue is the main accent color with green as the secondary accent color and art work done in neutral brown, black, cream and white.....this room would be easy to replicate with readily available ready to go items......so choose paint one shade light than sofa and go for it but go light!
