Help with a front door!

Hello all! Well I’m starting to panic about the amount of money I’m spending on my reno! So although I’ve picked out a lovely new front door, I am hoping someone will come up with a brilliant idea for my original front door. I will say, I’m not a huge fan of the eagle, it’s definitely going. Don’t love the glass block either, but unless I get a new front door I think I’m stuck with them. Any ideas?

Hmmm, I never thought about the possibility of changing out the sidelights. I’ll definitely talk to my contractor. Any recommendations on paint choice? I was thinking Navy originally but I’ll take an opinion!

Were changing glass in our sidelights as we're getting new metal front door thanks to hurricane Harvey. We chose to have same company installing glass shower doors do it rather than contractor....compare costs glass company might be cheaper. What color is house and trim?

That photo is pretty accurate! It’s a green with off white trim

Glass is cheap. Changr out and
    repaint.

Thanks Mamadada! Navy or Dark Gray?

Do I see wood trim around sidelights and on railing to front door? Color should compliment that....look on houzz for suggestions. Hopefully someone can offer suggestions...I'm stumped.

I would suggest to definitely change the glass and paint the door in shade of darker grey. Although Navy is a beautiful color but in your case since you have green walls and reddish tone wood railing, it would not look nice.

Maybe tape gray construction paper or buy sample gray you like and paint poster board and put next to door.

Is that real stained glass, or the paint that looks like stained glass?
    No it’s real stained glass

I would consider buying it from you, if the shipping costs aren't outrageous.

Hi Kootenaycapable, I have no idea what the shipping charges would be. My husband does go to the kootenays a couple of times a year for work though. I was planning to try to sell it here, but I haven’t looked into how much it’s worth yet. Do you have any knowledge there? I was planning to go to our local stained glass woman over here.

I just went to home depot.ca to check out prices. Factory built 22"×36" inserts cost up to $536 Canadian. As for yours, I have no clue.

The lady we bought the house from told us that she had paid $1500 for it, but I wouldn’t expect that for sure, as well as I don’t totally believe everything she said. (She actually asked us if we wanted to buy it from her......after we had purchased the house!). Anyways, I can look into it and get back to you? Does that work?

Yes, that will work. you can email me at alpenmotel@gmail.com

That eagle is beautiful. Just not for the front door.

I think you should get a wood or wood look door to go with the trim.

When the trim and door are closer to same color the glass blocks are less noticeable.

Hello Lauren. Like a few of the others have suggested, you may be able to work with your existing door and swap out or upgrade the size of your door glass and possibly your sidelights.

Holy cow, how did you do that, that’s amazing!
