I am in Michigan and it is too cold to ship for awhile. I have found them at Home Depot, Walmart, Meijer, and local nurseries. I have also ordered from Violet Barn, Top Tropicals, and Ebay. There are some people on this site who sell cuttings. Welcome to a new addiction!

Our Meijer (Michigan grocery store) had a beautiful bilobata and a tri-color this week. Keep looking. They may pop up in common places. Do you have any local nurseries who carry house plants?

nooo waayyy!! I have been wanting a variegated wayetii and a bilobata!!! It seems like hoyas are less readily available in California ): It seems like a lot of growers are in the midwest or east coast which i think makes sense whether wise. It's just so unfortunate because I'm a graduate student and can't afford to pay the ebay prices for a more mature plant. Thank you for sharing though! I will live vicariously through your guys's abundant hoya stores :D You guys must have great collections!

I hear you on the ebay prices,I can't bring myself to paying alot of those prices. I too have a limited budget for plants and must pick and choose.

Funny thing is there tends to be a better selection of hoyas at the big box stores than the actual plant stores around here (selection as in maybe two plants).

I thought California was the place with all of the selection of cool plants. :)

Lowes/Walmart often have different types of Hoyas by Costa farms. I've got the fishtail, lacunosa, ds-70/bilobata (it's labeled as both) at Lowe's and I saw a Chelsea at Wal-Mart the other day. I think you jist have to know what various forms Hoyas take and look for signs of Hoyas in the sea of hanging foliage.

I'm in CO and my Home Depot has Carnosa KQ, Chelsea, Bilobata, and Curtsii. I was just there yesterday. Wal-Mart also has them out here, though I prefer Home Depot (they have them under grow lights). I'd be glad to ship you one if you're still interested! I think it's great to support these stores when they sell Hoyas buy purchasing so they will continue to bring more rare varieties. Feel free to reply to me on here and we can trade email and discuss further :)

Hi KInco! Thanks so much for the response. I actually made a trip to New York this past week for my spring break. I told my husband that the only thing I had planned for our trip (aside from seeing friends and fam) was to go to home depot! XD After hearing everyone on this post, I was determined to find hoyas at HD. To my great joy, I did find hoya Chelsea and bilobata!! According to the EA tag, I also found a hoya carnosa variegata aka Tricolor wax plant. Can I ask which one your home depot sells? If it's the latter, I would be so grateful if you would help ship! I also have yet to find the hindu rope hoya which I've heard some HDs sell!

I am also interested in Hoyas and couldn't find them here(bay area). Which city do you live in?

I'm sure there are plenty of garden centers / plant shops / nurseries in the bay area that sell hoyas. Your climate is hoya heaven so they must be around! I know that Costa Farms aka Exotic Angel plants does not ship/sell in California. So the finds listed at Home Depot/Lowe's will not be the same in California. But I am confident you can find them elsewhere. Just pick a couple of places and go wandering or call first to see if they have any.

I even found one on Craigslist in San Jose area. Just keep hunting and you will find!

Justin, that's interesting! Thanks for setting the record straight. That makes one more option for the person above. And surely there are plenty of independent nurseries in the bay area that sell hoyas. :-)

I saw 3 varieties of hoyas in some nurseries in Bay area, CA. But the nursery prices are very expensive. For a 4 inch pot with 2 or 3 small cuttings, they are charging $29.99. At big box stores, it's under $20 for a full grown plant.

The difference is that the Hoya varieties grown by Costa Farms are sold at a significant profit loss because the hoyas are a part of a mixed assortment and faster-growing species in the assortment help subsidize them. If growers like Costa wanted to take hoays outof the assortment and price them so the company breaks even from a profitability standpoint on their hoyas, their big-box customers would stop buying them because the retail price points would have to be set too high.

It's not fair to independent garden centers to compare their hoyas and pricing to those of Costa Farms.
