BlueStar 30" RCS vs. Miele 30" AG

I've narrowed down my range options to either the BlueStar 30" RCS or the Miele 30" all gas range. I know these are very different ranges, but reliability is a huge priority for me and they both seem to be more reliable than others.

- Miele 30" gas - love the overall fit/finish - feels very well made; generally reliable brand, but these ranges seem to have had problems (clicking, sticking knobs, etc); if I get a Miele fridge/DW, then I'll get a discount; seems to get better ratings at places like CR;

- Bluestar 30" RCS (RNB isn't in the budget since if I go w/ the Miele I'll get $$ back - I also don't want to customize colors, SS is fine) - may heat up my kitchen more than the Miele; great at roasting, which is how I'll mostly use the oven; excellent burners; probably a bit harder to clean; great reputation and apparent reliability;

Which would you choose?

I do love my 30" Bluestar. The open burners are great and the convection oven is a fabulous. A couple things though:

1) it's only 3 years old and I've already replaced the ignitor;

2) if I use the rangetop and the oven simultaneously, the flames on the range will leap away from the burner head and confuse the range into thinking it isn't lit (lots of starter clicking). The man who installed the new ignitor told me to run the exhaust hood every time I use the oven to prevent this. This seems to work. Probably a good idea to do that anyway to exhaust excess heat.

3) make sure to buy the backplate if you are putting it against a flammable wall (which apparently includes tiled backsplashes). No one told me this at the appliance store and the pro installer didn't mention it either. I read about this one on the forum a few weeks ago so I have to buy this. Another good reason to run the exhaust hood.

I am a huge Miele fan, but I could not get over the problems reported here about the range, so I voted for Blue Star. However, since you are going for 30", have you considered the Miele induction range? All the miele range problems have been about their hobs/burners. Their induction is tried and true. If you are unfamiliar with induction, you should know it is as easier or easier to control as gas, a dream to clean up, and many people's first choice. Induction is nothing like smooth top electric ranges.

I thought about induction - but really lean towards gas b/c 1) it's more affordable; 2) I'm used to it and like it; 3) I like how gas ranges look vs. induction (less important but still a factor)...

Then I would go with Blue Star, which, I think is a great range.

There isn't any other gas range I should consider is there - if I want an excellent performer that's reliable? It does seem like Bluestar was really the stand out.

Price/performance ratio on RCS is tough to beat. Miele does most appliances very well, but the gas burners seem to be (relatively speaking) the exception.

Tell you one thing, bluestar customer service is HORRID. Miele is top-notch.

Those Miele all gas ranges were pretty much designed and produced for the North American market, so have no long German designed/made tradition --- unlike their washing machines. Nobody (I'm slightly exaggerating) buys them in Europe. It's all induction.

Well I went back and forth a million times, and had to also include feedback from my significant other. We ended up going with a kitchenaid pro dual fuel range. We got a very good deal on one with the matching built in refrigerator, so the price was better than the other options and it had the features everyone wanted.

Nellene, did you make a decision? Choosing between the two as well and don't have Kitchenaid bargain to throw into the mix.

@jerome_kramer Hi. Yes we went with the Miele. We are still in construction mode so I have not had it installed or used it yet. Should be installed in 2-3 weeks. I'll keep you posted! If you are looking for other appliances with a similar stainless finish I found Kitchen Aid for the fridge to be the closest match.
