Exterior Colour Suggestions

We’ve just purchased a 1980’s shed style house. It needs new windows, new roof, new siding, new eaves, and eventually new garage doors.

I think I’m settled on filling in some of the space around the door and windows with wall/siding and replacing the higher three windows with just one slightly smaller.

I’m wondering, what colour windows and roof will go best with the orange brick? What colour and style of siding? I was hoping for a vinyl shake style but I’m not sure if it works. Finally, what colour garage doors and front door? Painted or wood stain?

All of the other houses in the area are quite traditional.

We are considering everything at this point. My husband want to black but I think it might be too drastic for the area. I was assuming I’d need to do a beige-gray or green-gray but can’t find a lot of online examples. I like all of those options though the last was probably my favourite—most subtle.

I would eliminate any brown present on the house. Black is severe but a soft charcoal would be nice.

I like the current proportions of the windows. Why do you want to make them smaller?

I would upgrade the entrance by adding a larger landing.

Thanks for the input! I want the windows smaller mostly because in person they are quite overbearing. Also, then I would have room to do side lamps. Getting rid of the brown would make a big difference. What colour siding should be done?

I love grey or blue with orange brick. Since you said it's a very traditional neighborhood I would maybe stick with the gray as even a muted blue can stand out. I can't wait to see your finished photos.

I would change the front to double doors with smaller sidelights or a door with sidelights and then fill in the balance with board and batten siding

I wouldn't simply change out the windows without taking a more critical look at the home overall. See below.

If you select a new divided garage door, maybe use that same division for the windows above.

Here is a contemporary home with wood windows that could be interesting.
