texasmaia - google sketch-up is supposed to be good, but I found it too difficult. I do like Ikea's free downloadable 2D-3D program - just go to their website, download it, enter the dimensions of the space you're working on, and you can add cabinetry, furniture, etc, and you can look at it in 2D, 3D, move around, etc. I used it to configure our master bedroom, closet and bathroom - the program doesn't offer bathrooms or closets, but I was able to pretend 3 tables were the bed, etc, and it gave me a good rough idea of how everything would flow.

Picturing it. My contractor has a designer and program but I want to have my own ideas prior to our actual meeting next week and not waste a lot of time because of too many choices. Besides I need to really walk through and process and consider things a LOT before I make decisions.

I have a blank canvas so I want to play with possibilities!

I've noticed other companies offer the same free software, but Ikea's seems to be a bit of an upgrade, as it has more options, more items, etc.
A couple of hints - give yourself a bit of extra height and space, and don't sweat it trying to be really accurate - if you're anything like me, you're just trying to improve upon your own hand drawing, not compete with a papered draughtsman, so you can see your ideas come to life - roughly. Don't bother adding wall colours, flooring, etc, until way into the process, as it really slows down the functionality of the program. Keep it sweet and simple.

Thanks again and you are right Bubbly - I don't care about being precise I want to get a sense of what it will look like a couple of different ways. I appreciate the heads up on coloring etc.
I have tried the sherwin visualized and can't ever get it to work.. Maybe it's me.
