Hi all, I'm looking to decorate my living room which has just recently been plastered so I've got a lovely clean slate to start - its my first home so I've got no furniture at all yet either

All of our skirting boards, doors and door frames have been stripped of any paint and been waxed in dark oak (much to my disappointment as I wanted a lighter finish but my doors were too dark to start with so I had to go darker for all the wood to match)

We have lots of lovely brightly coloured graphic artwork to put on the walls, all in white box frames, so we are keen to stay quite neutral and minimal with the wall colours so that the artwork pops out and makes a statement. The only thing we're unsure of is whether to go for grey or brown tones in our carpet, walls, sofa etc - I'm really keen on greys but am not sure it would go well with the dark oak wood we have

I've attached a pic of the sofa we want to buy, in the grey that I like, but there is a dark brown in the attached fabric swatches that we also like

I'll try and upload some pics of the space soon if that helps

Has anyone got any examples of similar situations or any advice?
