I don't know where you live, but the UC Verde buffalo grass planted at the REC in Irvine is still brown because of the very cold nights we had at the end of February. No low water use plant uses less water until it is established. That takes at least a year. It's after that you will be able to cut back on watering.

Bermuda is pretty stubborn, but I have been able to manage it by manually pulling it from my landscape. It is not blended in with other grass, however, just shrubs and trees. I don't see how putting in a hybrid bermuda will solve the problem. I have Tifgreen in my back yard that was put in by the original owners many years ago. A few years ago common bermuda was introduced (probably when I had a lawn service) and it tends to crowd out the Tifgreen.

I live in Orange County. It's not that UC Verde buffalo grass turned brown. Parts of it are green while other parts are yellowish (when weeds are green in the same area).

That's a shame that the common bermuda tends to crowd out the hybrid bermuda. I was hoping for the other way around.

Bermuda will eventually take over the UC Verde.

Persistently removing Bermuda grass is a lot like persistently removing cockroaches and mice. Futile.

bermuda is the bane of my life if you ever intend to plant veggies or a bed of any kind, don't plant bermuda.....

Bermuda roots will go down 3 feet, and the top growth will reappear from those roots eventually. I successfully eliminated Bermuda from my front slope, but it took at least seven years of dedicated pulling as soon as the green sprouts appeared. This on a dry slope with rain the irrigation source, some of that in a long drought!

One of the best things I ever did in the garden was get rid of the lawn, but some families use their lawns for recreation, so for some they are important and valid.

The thing that annoys me about having a common Bermuda lawn is the constant mowing, otherwise it don't require a lot of water compared to other lawns.

If I can continuing having a combination of my buffalo grass and Pearl's premium grass, along with using Bayer Barmudagrass control (https://www.bayeradvanced.com/find-a-product/lawn-care/bermudagrass-control-for-lawns) then I'm fine.

However, if it's going to eventually take over all my entire lawn (unless I constantly spot treat it every strand and pull it out) then I was just wondering if I should just plant hybrid Bermuda seed (Princess 77) so that at least it can compete with my common Bermuda better.
