Sorry to break the trend, but I prefer the darker one to contrast with the white, assuming it is on an accent wall.

If the stone is to used as an accent, I would agree with dmoran0--if you use the lighter stone, it won't really stand out against a same-color wall. If you use the darker tile, however, I would suggest a very pale beige with a yellow base.

I believe the question is which one would make the room more contemporary. Going on the thought a more contemporary look is often monochromatic I had thought the lighter one. They are both beautiful. What is the name of the stone if you know please? I need a new backsplash and love this style. Does not seem to be as trendy as glass tiles.

I think both are modern. The question is whether you want to warm up the modern look a bit. It also may depend on how the room is furnished. But I do not think that color contrast destroys modernity, which is more a function of line.

First of all don't use white paint too 1980s. I like both colors. One is a very relaxing color (lighter one) other is a more WOW look. If going lighter paint a pale gray. If going gold one paint a darker gray. But don't use white will do nothing for stone, which is very pretty.

Ok, time for a photo. This is the closest I could find on line to show the darker color tile juxtaposed with white, although in this case it is used in a floor. I think white is just fine with the darker tile for a modern look.

Definitely the lighter tile. The darker is much too heavy and I agree that you can use color in art and accessories.

I think either odor looks fine. The darker one however adds another color to your scheme. Now it is tan & white instead of mainly white. It is a matter of the direction you are going.

The white one is more modern and the darker more rustic.

Depending on your personal style either is nice. I prefer the darker stone because to me it is timeless and classic whereas I love the lighter stone but feel that it could go out of style.
