Laundry room counter material

We're planning for our new construction home and are looking at laundry room countertop options. Our designer recommended using the same white quartz that we're using in the kitchen, but that seems like overkill for a laundry room, in addition to too expensive, and just feeling too cold. We current have laminate and don't love it, so we're looking for a good middle ground. We really like the look (and price point) of wood countertops for the laundry room, sealed with a product like Waterlox. Is this a good choice? Are there others that we should consider that are a nice balance of cost and style? There will be a rarely used sink, but no drip racks above the counter.
