Your kitchen sounds pretty! I think the first one is unique, and it sounds like it really works well (and you really like it best)! Can you make a mock-up of it somehow? This might sound lame, but maybe wrap a couple of shoeboxes in paper and suspend them, so you can get a gist of how "heavy" or low it is? Also, often the fixture will come with a shorter pipe than shown so it won't hang too low.

If you post a photo of the area in question, some folks on this forum might be able to "place" it in the photo for you! :)

That should say the wood fixture measures 32 inches not 21. Sorry

We have gutted the house down to the studs, and all I have in the room right now is sheet rock and partially painted walls, so it's hard to tell with pictures. I do like the wood fixture best. I just don't want it to "overtake" the kitchen.

My $.02, FWIW. That first "barnstyle" light just looks odd to me. I know of no barn that has lights like that (and I am a gal who has spent a lot of time in barns). That reclaimed wood piece - why is a hunk o' wood hanging like that, suspended in mid-air. The lights themselves that hang from it are more "industrial" looking than barn-y, and will have a great deal of glare. The second light is dark and stark.

What look are you going for in your kitchen? I guess I think a kitchen light should be pretty and/or welcoming. Something you want to prep under or eat under. Something you'd want to see first thing in the morning before coffee. Or want to see last thing at night to turn off before heading to bed. If it were me, I'd look for something prettier. There are many photos on Houzz or in magazines that have nice pendant kitchen lights.

They are all much to cow shed by way of China looking. You need something simple and classic. And not pseudo rustic. Or real rustic.

That rough wood is a dust magnet and doesn't just wipe clean.
