Different stone and for sure a different backsplash.

I think a soapstone or honed black granite counter would elevate your look. With a dark contrast like that you can keep it simple with the backsplash. Your floors are very red/orange so a counter with more red/orange wouldn’t be my first choice.

have you looked at Lapidus granite? It would look great in your new kitchen.

I think I'd like a dark counter better too.

That inspiration pic has a very dated backsplash BTW. I agree soapstone would be a nice choice with a simple backsplash

Thanks for the responses everyone. One thing I have been conflicted about is I like warm and traditional, but this seems to be a dated look. I think the soapstone just looks "fine" to me, it doesn't make my heart beat fast. Maybe it could grow on me. Keep the suggestions coming!

I love the look of light & bright spaces. Your kitchen doesn't have much natural light, so keeping the elements light will help with lighting. I would personally stick with a light warm granite, but not that one. I would look for a slab that has less gold in it. I have Fiore Bianca in my kitchen. Here is Colonial Breeze which is very similar, but less gold. I would take a cabinet door to the stone yard & look around.

When it comes to a backsplash I would look at ceramic tiles in ONE light color with matching grout.

Well I don’t mind the above granite but I do think it lands in the ‘meh’ category and may feel too bland. The natural lighting may be lacking but the man made type is sufficient to carry a dark counter. OP let us know what YOU decide:)

Dark counters! You'd have contrast, without the business of all that veined granite; a much cleaner look.

Love the look you are going for! I would definitely add some dark knobs like in the inspiration photo. I like that there are little black squares in the back splash to help pop and tie in the color of the knobs. When looking at the back splash try and tie in the knob color for a more cohesive look. Also, I think the kitchen is a solid traditional look. If you want to add a splash, I think you can do that with the right lighting above the island. Doing great! Good luck! :)

I also like the look you are going for - so tired of cold looking kitchens. I am not expert enough to agree or not on the granite. It seems to me that white being a neutral goes with anything. I like the look of dark counters, but I can't work on a dark surface for some reason. I waited until my countertops were in before making a final decision on the backsplash.

I'm back! I went to a tile back splash design appointment and did some more granite shopping. The designer said Typhoon Bordeaux would look good, but it would be a bolder statement. I also came across this slab called Nilo River and was really excited about it, and got a feeling it was the one. I thought the colors were great and loved that it had some movement but was relatively consistent. But my husband was not crazy about it and we both agreed that close up it might be too busy a surface to work on as well as it didn't make us feel calm. My husband seems to be partial to the Typhoon or Sienna Bordeaux, and I think it could be kind of sophisticated looking, but so far we haven't loved the slabs we have seen. So in the end, I think we are going with the first one I posted, the Colonial Cream. It's safe. We need to get this done and I've asked the fabricator to try and cut our most visible pieces (like the peninsula) from the gold side of the slabs. Here are some pictures, what do you think? We haven't finalized yet.

I think they all look good, but I like the last with less gold. I don't like the backsplash choice though. Is it travertine? It can go pinkish at times. I had it in my kitchen and regretted it!

I like the first one and the last one. and agree with the backsplash it pulls brown/pink.

I love the movement in both bordeaux. I'm partial, I have river bordeaux in my kitchen. All of your choices are lovely. I would say the colonial cream feels the safest.

You like what you like....who cares what others think....if you like the traditional go for it. Are you selling this house in the near future? If no then do what YOU LIKE AND YOUR TASTE. Keep it simple....I would do the Typhoon Bordeaux. good luck!

Absolutely no to the backsplash material with all of them. Wait on that until your counters are in.

We are having Colonial Gold installed this Friday (can't wait). I am thinking of putting up glass cream subway tile.....but I won't know for sure until the granite is in and I can se how it goes together.

I think the sienna bordeaux is beautiful! It also will be easier to work on than the Typhoon.

In answer to your first question, yes that granite would look too blah.

I love your inspiration picture and think you should go for it if that’s what you like! I also don’t think your granite is blah. I don’t like busyness and a lot of movement, though.

I like the Nilo River and I also like the Typhoon Bordeaux. They are flashy and fun and go perfectly with your inspiration image. Follow your dream and you will enjoy your space.

Pick what makes you both feel happy, I’d reconsider the back splash with any of these though.

I am glad you are considering a different backsplash tile. The cream subway is a much better choice. The pinky undertone of the travertine does not complement your granite.

I like Colonial Cream or Sienna Bordeaux. Definitely not Typhoon!! It doesn't look as expensive and high end as the other choices. Good luck!

I like the new choices, but please pick a different backsplash. You backsplash sample is very orange & pink. I doesn't compliment the slabs at all.
