No, you should not position art any which way it fits your space. The artist created it in a specific orientation and that’s the way it should stay. A little lower and closer together, as others have said, would be best.

The "rule of thumb" that almost always works for me is "5-5-75." Center 5' above the floor or bottom 5" above furniture and never wider than 75% of the furniture's width.

If you are of normal height, the center of the art should be right about at eye level. And def closer together. Think of them being two pieces of a whole. And for heavens sake...do NOT turn them 90degrees...if I were the artist and caught you doing that, I’d banish you!

Regardless of what the artist intended (which once purchased really doesn't matter) they don't fit well horizontally, too wide and not tall enough for the size of wall, and too squished together above the couch

I don't see any reason not to hang abstract art sideways, although I agree that in this case, it is a bit too wide for the size of the sofa.

If the artwork is signed then the signature should be facing the proper direction. I suppose some artwork lends themselves to being hung both vertically and horizontally. However, these look better hung vertically. They just need to be lower and closer together.

Ok, so it is neither illegal nor immoral to hang artwork, once it is yours, any way you see fit. For me, personally, I would prefer to respect the artist’s vision and maintain the intended orientation.

BTW, I think your room looks lovely, warm and comfortable, and will be even better with some of the small changes suggested above.
