definitely sundrops, which I call primrose, tho they are not true primroses, of course. They are very pretty in bloom and not too shabby out of bloom, tho they can/do attract Japanese beetles for me, unfortunately. In bloom and in large swathes they can be traffic-stoppers -- my sister grew them on the street-side of a stone wall in CT and the cars would often come to a stop!

Haha. I love them and I do think they are the Oenothera species - Sundrops. However, looks like not all those types grow the little reddish plant at base. I am attaching a photo please advise if you know otherwise or where I can buy. Thank you so much. I have been trying to get answer all over.

Have gardened with them also. Took them to be Oenothera fruticosa (yellow sundrops); sometimes called evening primrose. As Roxanna says, not members of the Genus Primula (primroses, cowslips, etc.).

vms5005 -- those reddish rosettes are typical in the late part of the summer into the fall. In spring, they are green, at least for me. The speed of their spread is amazing, but if not wanted in any area, they are super-easy to pull up and transplant. Tough guys overall!

It has been a long, long time since I planted mine. I recall them being O. fruiticosa or O. fruiticosa 'Youngii'. Early season before the flowering stems they are reddish mixed with a bit of green, just like yours.
