If you're wanting sheers behind, I'd go with a Euro pleat.

Ripplefold is not a pleat, but a style heading and it's more contemporary. It's not usually used with a sheer behind it. Either alone or over shades or blinds. Not sure what she means about it not laying well. There just needs to be enough room between the layers for it to operate well without getting caught up in what's behind it.

If you really wanted ripplefold, she just may need to add more projection space between, if that's what she means.
