I’m not sure where you are. In hottest areas they will do fine, even better, in partial shade.

And depending on where you are located, may not be a great choice. Redtip photinia, Photinia x fraseri, is prone to a very debilitating leaf spot that results in defoliation and decline, to the point where they are no longer recommended or sold in large portions of the country.

Tennessee Extension has pages up about leaf spot and the problem it is there.

Photinia seems more prone to leaf spot when it's regularly pruned. Perhaps the resulting new foliage produced later in the season is more vulnerable. Unfortunately most people buy these to use a 'shrubs' or pruned hedges, so pruning is common. They are, in fact, small trees.

Just a theory.

I only have 'Cassini' (sold as Pink Marble) and don't shear it - I either leave it alone or prune it into a multi-trunked tree. No leaf spot. But I wonder if that is more a factor of my very dry summer climate? I don't see leaf spot on the sheared specimens in commercial plantings, either. And the Raphiolepis in those same commercial plantings is covered with leaf spot.
