Please I.D. this cactus!

This is a cactus that I bought at Home Depot last summer. It had a very helpful label identifying it as "cactus"... I would love to know it's real name!

The body of it is a very dark reddish, purple, green.

SLD, nice find. Check out E. subgibbosa:). Nice find at HD. Sometimes you can find good stuff there. There will be one lonely little unique guy in between all the very common. The other day I found an Andromischus undulatus all by itself.

Alain, it's almost succulent/cactus show time:)!

Not sure what it is but very nice find for HD!! almost could look like a ssp/variant of an Eriosyce, like taltalensis (as I always say, I have been wrong at this before :(, maybe just a lead...or not!

It is an eriosyce, but iding the species of one is hard. My guess its a villosa.

Kara, yes it is!! In my backyard end of the month... Actually went south to the Monterey society show 2 weekends ago. It's close to the Succulent Gardens which had its spring sale on the same weekend. Spending season started with a bang!!

Saw that there are 2 shows in Sacramento at 2 weeks intervals in May, would you recommend one over the other. A little far for me to go to both.

Thanks everyone! It certainly seems to be an Erioscyce. Which one is certainly the confusing part. In looking at the photos, the plant looks a bit more like subgibbosa and the flowers a bit more like villosa. That being said, there's so much variability in both those species that I can find photos of individuals in either species that look like mine. So confusing :-) but at least I have a genus!

Always the possibility of being a hybrid, SLD.
