    Is it a microwave drawer??
Yes and you don't have to see it hanging over your oven!

The typical alternatives for microwave location are placement above the range, built into upper cabinets, in combination with a wall oven, this drawer type, or placing on the countertop. A good rangetop needs more exhaust than you can generally get in a microwave/hood combo, so many people don't prefer or can't use that option. Building it into the upper cabinets wastes storage space. If you use a range (not wall oven) or want a double wall oven, or just don't like the oven/combo, then the drawer is a space-saver over finding countertop space.

I have one of these drawer microwave ovens, by Sharp. I hated bending for everything in the microwave and caught my elbow on the open door more than once, spilling hot food. Since I have an oven in the island, no over the stove mounting. And very limited wall space. The design has huge cool factor, but it is underpowered, at only 850 watts.

Engine99, that was a good solution for you and looks great. Sharp now advertises it's drawer microwaves to be 1000 watts; Dacor's and Wolf's are 950 watts.

Well, it is rated at 1000 watts, but based on the specific gravity of water, (4.18Joule/gram °C), and using a liter of water, mine only puts out 850 watts. That is the physics lesson for today, class. However, the cat and I still like the microwave and it DID solve the design dilemma :)

Ah, "engine99"...engineer? I feel like the class dunce. :)

And the layout of their kitchen is eerily similar to mine...but alas, no cat at their house.

engine99 could understand not liking it. To me, it seems a pain to bend down every time you want to put something in and push the buttons. But more important!!! I'd worry about the steam coming up in someone's face! Ever have a steam burn? Worse than a boiling water burn!

I have one by Dacor. Love it - saves space and stores neatly out of sight. Have never burnt myself or had any problems using it.

Have 2 drawers underneath it as well for micro accessories its wonderful go for it you won't be sorry. NO I NEVER HAD STEAM IN MY FACE AT ALL.. So convenient and worth the expense. Mine is 1000 w its a beautiful thing! I have tall friends and not one said they were uncomfortable using it when here. Plus has anyone ever spilled soup from a over the stove microwave Not fun for sure.
