window treatments

I’m using this as a short term vacation rental. What should I do for window treatments? I’m at a total loss between drapes, shades, blinds & color. Something that will still look nice when drawn and dummy proof for guests.

What a gorgeous room! Are the current brown drapes not sufficient to cover the window? If not, I would augment the current drapes with additional panels or replace with sufficient panels. To me, they hang in the right spot with the transom windows uncovered.

    Awesome space, beautiful design!

Drapes are a great choice especially with the hanging system you have in place. Although other window treatment options would be nice as well, damage to them can be more costly to repair or replace. Drapery is the right choice from a function and cost standpoint as well as aesthetics in the softening of the more industrial elements.

Best of luck with your rental!

What a lovely space! Could you tell dimensions of this room please? I think you have right drapes already there.

Thank you so much for these encouraging comments Danita, Patricia, Nanke and Celery Girl. It’s very very helpful and I greatly appreciate the input. The existing curtains are not wide enough when they are drawn, which I got at overstock and are now no longer available.

The large window is 176 inches wide by 96 h. (Not including the transom) The space is about 25x20 feet. We built this as an apartment for my parents as an addition to our row house in Brooklyn. Our builder used 100 year old pine for the ceilings.

The owner (edit: your parents?) may not want you to put screw holes in the wood to affix hardware for a window treatment, especially if you're planning to take it down and take it with you when you leave.

Why would you invest in window treatments for a short term rental when there is, literally, a wood wall just beyond your windows?

If you're concerned about some peeping tom climbing over the wall to ogle at you, invest in a pair of solar powered lights with motion sensors that you can hang on the wood wall with screws and then remove them to take them home with you after the vacation.

You can get some from big box stores (WalMart for <$15) that come on low at dark ... then, when it senses motion, it brighter for a few minutes.

suez - this is part of their house. They are considering renting it out when they are not using it.

Pilley -the space is lovely. Did you decorate yourself or did you collaborate with a designer?

D_gw, yes, we built for my parents when they visit, which turns out to be not so much, hence the short term rental. I decorated myself, but I don’t know what I’m doing. I just like to hunt and peck. :)

You have spectacular hunt and peck skills! I have no suggestions about the windows, I am just enjoying your space :)

Does your drapery rod extend over the entire width of the window? I like the drapery look that you currently have and the color too! The most economical treatment would be ready-made panels sewn together. Nice room.

    Try https://www.halfpricedrapes.com/

Go with the color you have now or even a charcoal color. You have a good eye, trust yourself.

I agree that your current drapes are great. I like the brown. It warms up the space. I would just get some of a similar color that will close completely.

Your place is truly incredible! I initially thought when i opened this thread that is was from a magazine!
