Dining Room help needed!!!

I've been living with this dining room for many, many years and not sure what to do with it. I hate to get rid of furniture that is still in great shape but I know it looks dated. I'm a big believer of repurposing material and not getting rid of things that are usable just to make things look better. I've tried to sell the furniture without much luck so I don't have the funds to purchase a beautiful new table and chairs so the challenge is how do I take this room and update it without spending a lot of money and reusing or repurposing what's there (if possible).

Keep the furniture however:

Declutter the room

Repaint in a color that enhances rather than matches the color of the wood of your dining room set

Eliminate the sheers on the windows if privacy is not an issue

Select a new more updated linear chandelier for over the table.

Replace the carved Chinese are rug with one that doesn't have a border & is a bit larger to better accommodate the table. There should be at least 3ft of rug around the table on all sides.

Since the display cabinet barely fits between the two windows, relocate it to the wall to the right of your French doors.

Several ideas -- de-clutter. You have many accessories that appear dated and add to the closed-in feeling. After you remove everything, you will see the room look bigger and fresher. I'd update the rug with something more modern and change the light fixture -- remove the flower trim. Lastly I would remove the panels -- see how you like the windows with only sheers. Your dining set is beautiful!

The room is dark, paint it a shade or two lighter. Loose the dark rug, if you can swap it with a lighter one from another room. Find some white or light items for the cabinet and declutter it. Replace the fabric on the seats.

Also, larger lighter or stacked art on the walls.

Way too dark in there.

Paint the walls some shade of white and paint the woodwork a shade or two darker than the chosen white. The light colors will help to showcase the woods in the great looking French doors and flooring.

Get rid of the heavy curtains and replace with some textured sheers.

Get a larger, lighter area rug.

Looks like the china cabinet has a mirrored back?? I would cut some foam core boards and paint them a light color (choosing one from the new area rug) and cover the mirrors (if there is room to nudge the shelves forward and the foam core to fit behind the shelves.) If not, maybe glue some fabric to the mirror? Or prime the mirror and paint it.

I like the light fixture but without the frou-frou wrapped around it. Or replace if you've tired of it.

Have a garage sale and get rid of a bunch of stuff.
