The red doesn't work for me. Everything else works beautifully!


Can you turn the sofa towards fireplace with a sofa table behind?

And the green chair if you can get another one, facing each other, ottoman in the middle.

Less is more, things need to come out of the space, and key anchor pieces need to go in.

Ate you looking for pieces that are similar to the two pieces you're keeping, or a mix?

I want to see the blue green chair with the Saarinen table in the back right corner of the fore place wall and the painted wall (of the main picture). For now I see the sofa facing the fireplace. Im not sure about the two red chairs. I would stick them both under the window, but that is a whole lotta red in one spot for this room!
You said your eventually getting rid of the furniture, I definitely see a sectional couch facing the fire place, diagonal from where I said the chair and table would go. An L shape to frame in the room, yet still keep a large area for walking. And deff keep the pups, they work well and belong in every room as far as my design advice goes :)

Love the idea of sectional, berginalexandra!! In a nice medium, neutral gray. Maybe a big arching floor lamp and an oval coffee table that mimics Saarinen table. And that gorgeous blue/green color in throw pillows on sectional.

Perhaps more open storage on fireplace wall? Open shelves on top with cabinetry below. In very simple, clean lines. Or even chunky floating shelves with media consoles below

Maybe white to go with dining set, similar finish, look and feel. Are you painting the walls, trim and ceiling?

Hello there! Since your TV is above the fireplace it make sense to center the sofa across from the fireplace. Put a pair of chairs along the wall with a small side table in between and your other single chair and table put against the windows but angled a little towards the fireplace or sofa depending on what you like. Make sure you have a wide enough walkway between the sofa and chair as this would be your entrance into the sitting area. Hope this helps!

Thank you all for your advice and thoughts! Yes the red chairs are horrible... Agreed. I do not have a matching chair to the blue and green one. I have thought a ton about a sectional... should all furniture be semi floating? Everything is repaintable. I would like to keep the furniture more simple/ monochromatic with pops of color in the accessories. There is a toddler running around so I need thoughts to a large ottoman and or coffee table that the room can be arranged around. The mirrored side table is also staying (see image) and the other image is inspiration.

Yes, I think it should be semi floating, nice pieces that you're keeping and love your inspiration picture :)

I don't know if this is good for you but I've put together a bunch of stuff as inspirational pics for you, a lot is from west elm, some c + b and other stuff. Some items could probably be replicated at a more economical price from ikea. Also, don't know measurement next to fireplace, but I chose two different options, I think the mid century piece in dark stain is bout 56". The other one in white is smaller. Thought these might be nice with some floating shelves above. Anyways, there are quite a few pictures. Two different paint colors, thought maybe deeper for wall, lighter for ceiling, white for trim. Or lighter for wall, white for trim and ceiling. Or all white wall and trim with light or dark ceiling. Or all white everywhere and last but not least, light for wall, dark for ceiling and white for trim. Whew!!! Lots of typing... :)

The room appears large enough, so I would definitely pull the pieces (regardless of what you buy new vs reuse) off the walls towards the center of the room. You want to have a more cohesive conversation area. If you are going to have the sofa face the tv/fireplace, I'd recommend a console table behind it, otherwise, it's a bit more inviting to now have the back of the sofa facing the rest of the space.

I like the two hutches on either side of the fireplace, but think they would look better painted white with blue behind the shelves. A light grey sectional sounds good, but make sure it's not too big--don't want to overwhelm the space. I like the white Saarinen coffee table, if going with the sect. sofa, maybe make it round instead of oval?
