nice place. are the cabinets really that beat up?

if you are hiring them to paint, what is their prep work? have them detail in writing for you. what paint do they use? do they take off everything and spray at their shop? Will they mark where each door and drawer go? type of primer? any sanding? I ask because problems will arise if the prep work is not done correctly.

I can' see how many cabs you have, but the price should be in the 3.5-5K neighborhood.

as for color, I'd pick Simply White by BM. it's a good neutral white.

if you want to do a two-tone, do the gray on the lowers. I'd pick something darker than your splash color.

maybe a charcoal or even a black would look great w/all the wood in that room.

Thanks, Beth! The professional painters did our exterior and our interior wood walls and they are awesome! So that is all good. The cabinets aren’t damaged but stain is wearing off from fingers, etc. Probably original finish from 1995 build.

If they are worn and need something, consider a green or green- gray. It is warmer and may work better with the warm wood tones than plain gray. I am not sure how that will work with the counter and backsplash - might need to be more gray /green:

no. do not have house painters do your cabinets! I can't stress that enough. The prep work is totally different and takes up about 75% of the painting job. please,,,no house painters unless they are also Cabinet specialists! which I doubt.

what was their estimate for the painting of the cabs?

look at all the posts on here by people who had their cabinets painted by 'good house painters'.

What hey said. House painters do not equal cabinet painters! It’s an entirely different process! Otherwise you will have a result that looks good... for a few months... then starts to chip everywhere, resulting in awful looking cabs and the need for more money to fix.

Good feedback. (I will say the painters spent five days prepping the wood walls ( great room, Hall, and stair well) and two days painting, saying the prep was the critical part for the walls, too. The finish feels hard and smooth; they told me if I ever wanted to change the color the walls would need to be sanded down again because they used a finish like they put on cabinets...but I did not ask what specifically it was. I know they have done cabinets before as I visited their work shop.)

Very small kitchen and bid was $3200 to paint. But I will be more specific about exact process if we go this route. Thank you so much for the caution!

great barbara. maybe you lucked out and found some guys who know what they're doing. yes,,,get a written format on exactly how they prep and what their steps entail. as for painting, are they using a pre-cat lacquer or regular paint? on site or in their shop? lastly, what's their warranty?

My painter was able to match the stain on my cabinets and so repair the small wear places to back-like-new.
