Thank you Bev, I have considered consulting a professional. I do tend to gravitate towards certain plants but the placement is what I am hesitant about.

You are very welcome! It's one of the reasons I hired a professional landscaper. I have had my hubby plant my flowers in the past and he has not done what I wanted. I now have a garden I'm very happy with!

I think it is always good to start with a master plan and then execute. Sometimes it’s best to get a landscape designer to draw out your plans for you. You can purchase those and do the work yourself. When I look at your photos I feel like you need something on both sides of your walkway and definitely more on the side you have started close to the house. I’ve posted a few photos of my front yard. You can see the layers and texture. I chose to put my bushes (boxwood) on the other side of my walk really lining it to define it. I then layered hostas that can take AM sun with pachysandra which stays green all year round as my groundcover. I’ve layered other plantsetc as well under my 2 trees that define the corners of my front walk. Good luck to you.

Dawn your landscape is gorgeous! I think I will reach out to a designer for a plan and plant ourselves. I like the idea of plants on the front side of my sidewalk but our drain field is there.

Thank you Joy. I could also see a tree off the corner of your house in that large circle area. Wish I had a pic from further back so I could give you a better sense of the layout. But this is the left corner of the front of house with a River Birch on that corner and hydrangeas then fill in behind it on the side of the house. But do it right get a plan first. Then have fun. Dawn, here is a photo from the road, I can get more later. Our septic tank is on the left side of the house so we need to take that into consideration . We originally had three purple fountain grass plants on the left side Circle area and they filled the space nicely. I didn't realize though that they are annuals in our zone. One bush on the left is a little lime hydrangea that I planted last year. The spruce is slow growing.
