I’m having these 2 chairs recovered, what color or pattern would you use??

Also, if we decide to do the couch- color?

Something in the blacks and greys of your rug? Something along this line would look nice:

I'm tempted to suggest a wild color since everything in your room is so monochromatic, but I imagine it's that way because that's what you like. I suppose with your gray walls and black and white rug you'd be most comfortable on the cool side of the color spectrum, gray, black, dark blue.

I agree with ingrid - get some color in this room! Find a fabric you love and go for it!

Ingrid - what color would look nice without being obnoxious?

    Anglophilia - any suggestions?!

I would suggest a dark burnt orange....echoing the coffee table and that tray on the shelving unit.

The blue or the orange in the butterfly's wings on the pillow might be nice.

I would suggest that unless you are very sold on a color you love to do the couch and chair in the white/black/grey you are already using and then introduce some color with pillows or other decore pieces. They are much easier to change if it turns out that color is not to your liking. A bright Turquoise Blue is lovely with the grey/black/white tones.

I would use a damask pattern for that style of chair. You could go pretty neutral or very bold with this pattern depending on the color choice. I would choose a color and make these chairs a nice accent piece. A royal or navy blue would be striking.

Would this fabric be too busy/bold for my room?

No, Everything else is so neutral that would create a lovely pop of color for your chair. I would do the couch in a sold color (Grey?) though and then have throw pillows made in the same fabric for the couch.

Love that fabric. I don't think it goes very well with the current couch color, but if you recover the couch as well, it would look great!

Keep it neutral, make the accent pieces a bit more colorful.

I would clear everything off the mantel, including the clock, and find some artwork that has a red in it close to the color of the red and white chair, but it doesn't have to be exact. I would also replace the rug, which seems a bit unfriendly and stark, with a traditional or transitional Oriental-type one which has some warm colors like terra-cotta, along with cooler colors to complement the wall color, and that should tie the whole scheme together nicely. Large clocks are rapidly going out of style and are not beautiful in any way. I would suggest a glass and metal coffee table because yours is not very chic and fights with the floor color. I'm not sure that the chairs would have to be recovered unless they're damaged or have some other flaw. Instead you could have brick-red patterned pillows to tie in with the rug and the painting. I would also take everything off the bricks below the fireplace and declutter to the right of the fireplace. A few carefully thought-out pieces are much more effective than a lot of random pieces.
