What would you do to this exterior?

This is a 1990 built suburban home (in Canada as you might have guessed).

We’re undertaking an extensive interior renovation (it’s been stripped back to subfloor and drywall).

What would you suggest to improve the look of the exterior? I was thinking painting the windows/doors/garage doors and eves black then repainting the white siding something a bit more sandstone in colour. I had also considered replacing the little balconies with a wrought iron railing.

Before we starting to commit, I figured I should defer to this communities expertise...

Any ideas are welcome and appreciated!

Honestly I think black would look too severe on the windows & eaves & maybe difficult to upkeep. I would consider upgrading the front door & make a statement with that, possibly black ? If you’re going to paint the siding, I would consider a medium shade of gray, it will bring up the whiteness of the windows & eaves & modernize the whole look. You could also add black shutters to the windows to match black front door.

I would remove the side lights and juliet balconies and French doors change to updated windows also front door and side lights add a more updated door package with side lights change out the glazing over the front door and illiminate the two columns and the boxed out trim over them. It would not be cheap but would have dramatic affect on the façade.

excellent choice for the black. right now the white is too severe.

consider adding in some wood somewhere, like cedar or redwood. maybe change the garage door to wood or wood tone instead of the white.

notice the pics.

absolutely change out the door to larger doubles w/side-lites. you have the space for it and that home demands larger doors.

i would either go dark on facias and seperating board s or go dark gray on the body and a lighter widest type gray on the trim

I like your plans. I'm not one hundred percent sure about the sandstone color because I can't really tell the tone of the brick, but based on your other ideas, I suspect that would work. Post pictures after you finish!
