Thank you everyone. I was so lucky to find GW 8 years ago when I did my condo, and now had excellent help from the folks here again.

For the record, your beautiful quartzite changed my mind completely about counters with very strong movement. I was not a fan before, but now realize that with the right supporting choices it can look absolutely stunning.

I'm so glad I was able to at least change your mind and maybe one or two others. I know a busy granite or quartzite isn't for everyone, but it can work well. I know I get such joy just looking at the patterns and colors in it.

One of the things I did was with my "supporting players". The quartzite has lots of random pattern in it, so with all my lighting, my cabinets, tile, etc, I repeated rectangles and squares over and over. I'm having a stained glass panel put into the window in the backsplash and it will have some ginkgo leaves in it, but they're stylized and even the overall pattern for the stained glass is again rectangles and squares.

What are the plans for the walls above the buffet?

It is so beautiful. I just love that buffet-do you have a pic of the wallpaper that's going above it?

Thank you. That niche was made just for the buffet and it almost didn't fit because of the trim molding. We had to remove the top of the buffet to get it in, so whoever wallpapers, will have to paper around the buffet. LOL.

I chose a green on green Bradbury and Bradbury wallpaper. I'd like to leave it as a surprise for my final reveal. ;)

I love your warm tan ceiling. I usually find one new thing every time at look at your photos. And the color selection is always top notch - but the ceiling color being carried down to the hatband really wraps the room so nicely.

Thank you Janni. I had seen versions done with stained wood and loved the look, but wasn't 100% that it would work well with painted wood. I'm happy with how it defines the rooms and cozy's up the room by making the ceilings feel a bit lower.

Wow! Not just the functional design, but the look as well -- it all fits together so well! (Not surprising given that you are an artist!)

I hope our new home (when we get to it) will turn out half as nice! (I'm not an artist -- I'm a "techie", so while I do well with function, I usually need help with colors and similar.)

Thank you buehl. I have you to thank partly for the functional as I read the threads, listened to your thoughts, etc. Of course I did flip the cleanup sink and the prep sink but as you know, I had good reasons for that. :)

There is so much function in this kitchen and just using it this past week, DH and I managed to stay out of one another's way and it was so easy going from one thing to the next. I did wind up putting my everyday dishes to the left of the cleanup sink with silverware in the top drawer and I'm loving that I can grab a spoon, grab a bowl, and then take one step and grab a yogurt out of the fridge.

And I love that I have drawers I haven't even used.

Trays are above the oven.

Baking stuff is in the drawers to the left of the cooktop and baking supplies are in the cabinet to the left of the cooktop. Drawers under the cooktop are for pots and pans. Drawers to the right of the cooktop are for baking dishes, casserole dishes, etc and the cabinet above is for spices and oils.

The corner cabinet has my knives in the top drawer, dish towels and mitts in the middle drawer and all those booklets on how to work the appliances in the bottom drawer.

To the right of the prep sink is a double trash and in the drawer are all the sandwich bags, freezer bags, aluminum foil, parchment paper, etc. Below the microwave is all the plastic containers, and above in the cabinet is dog stuff on the first shelf and snacks for us on the second shelf.

Then in DH's coffee cabinet, I have no idea except he has his cups, toaster oven and coffee maker.

The two drawers below the oven are empty, as is the bottom corner drawer, the drawers below DH's cabinet and the bottom drawer below my dishes. I'm sure I'll eventually find something to fill them up with!

This kitchen is truly a dream kitchen functionally and yes, I'm thrilled with how it looks.

They aren't as wide as they look. The one under the cooktop is 37" I believe and the largest one is 39" or 40". I'll have to measure them again but I'm in NY this week.

cpartist, my sincerest apologies for having missed this post - I've been waiting and waiting for it but just missed it, and we've been a bit busy on our demo. I finally decided I just had to search for it!

My gosh, it's utterly exquisite. Functionally, your kitchen is extraordinary, and style-wise - everything and more of what I'd imagined it'd be from the person here on GW Kitchen who's taste, in my eyes, is impeccable. I'm in awe of what you've accomplished, and the outcome. I can't touch on everything as this post would be book-length, but may I say again, your lighting throughout is so perfect. The buffet is gorgeous, and all those wide drawers... oh. my. Your furnishings are perfect, the colors are striking, and there are a multitude of details that make every room custom and unique. I did have to revisit the other thread, and your baths are so attractive (the master is pure luxury and so tasteful), the banister is beautiful, I love the built-in file cabinets in your DH's study, and the exterior of your home, from every angle, is something people will look at in admiration.

I'm very, very happy for you - you and your DH have worked so hard on this home and it shows throughout. Enjoy : )

What was your process for designing your stained glass windows? We are installing leaded glass in our kitchen cabinets. It's a Spanish-style condo, so I want the glass design to be in keeping with that and relatively simple, but otherwise I don't have a clue where to start.

Beautiful! A very nice reinterpretation of Mackintosh. The kitchen reminds me of his Glasgow house, which is a very good thing.

When I was redoing my living room I decided to go for white painted woodwork and white shades and off white light walls to get a similar light feel, and I combined it with a Stickley settle and some mid-century furniture.

I noticed this new post and thought there was an update on resolving the issues with your build. Your home is so lovely that I hope things have improved.
