help needed on my fantasy brown layout

I always thought I wanted to have my slabs going the long away along the counters and island. This would mean a seam in the corner and the pattern would go sort of perpendicular to the pattern on the island. I hope you can understand what I'm talking about. After reading some of the threads here I see talk of wanting it all to flow the same way. that means the long peninsular would have short waves verses the long.
My fabricator looked at me like i was nuts, but said he would do whatever I want. ..am I wrong?

Oh they exist. LOL. Did you do the normal testing on your slabs?

Seems like they could miter that one corner, and then the FB could run parallel on both walls. I've seen that done, and done well. But this is something that has to be discussed before you can know how many slabs to buy. The island might not even need a seam, if your slab is big enough...but I don't know how sizing runs on quartzite. Ask your fabricator for pics of the template layout.

i know what you mean. you don't want to end up w/two diff directions at the seaming. that one grover showed first is what you want to avoid. show your guy that pic and tell him that's what you don't want.

don't know how your layout is, but here are some examples for you to go off of

this one is actually done very well.

Grain should run parallel to walls.

It is not to scale. The island is more angled than what I have drawn it and the counter to the right of the French doors is actually in another room (the breakfast nook) but is open to the kitchen area. The island is one level, that was the impetus for this project. I think the fb looks best run the long way.

What is the plan for the support for the overhang on the island? Corbels? Steel?

3slabs of what size? You say the island is angled, but show a big square. That’s a big difference in what can be done and stone yield. Is the stove a freestanding? A cooktop? A drop in? A slide in? Where are you measuring that 51” from? The actual wall at the rear, or the counter that it intersects?

We need to see a more exact diagram, with more details.

Can you show the cabinet layout you received from your KD? Why is she not giving you the proper guidance here?

- The kitchen is existing and we are just changing the counter tops and backsplash so we do not have a KD.
- The slabs are the large sized granite slabs.
- The island is a big rectangle, I meant it is angled placement. There are cabinets back to back with a "kneewall" and there will be steel supports for the overhang.
- The 51" is measured to the counter it intersects and the range is a slide in.
I have a meeting so I can't include a more exact diagram, I will do that after the meeting.

Thanks Grover, I will communicate those pics to my fabricator tomorrow. I'm sure this is what he was planning before I suggested otherwise. I guess what I envisioned isn't correct. Happy I stumbled across an old thread on the same subject.

yes I know it is classified as a marble. researched the heck pout of out and couldn't find any unsatisfied customers. praying they don't come out of the woodwork after I install.

yes, fared easy better than my existing real granite. I'm looking at one of those 10 year sealers any suggestions on those or thoughts?

Cat, I don't think the island needs a seam...Yay! I really would prefer the look of the seam miterd in the corner because I think that's the way the stone looks best. I'm going to talk to him again today when he comes to pick up the sink. My slabs looked the same size as all the granite slabs.
