the current set up has a lot of benefits. have you thought about window treatments for the door itself and the windows on the sides? privacy? light control? when you have french doors, they swing in, into window treatments. right now the doors would clear the upper drapery rod, but will squash the drapes behind it. your roman shades will be behind the open doors too. (no more parking your outdoor slip ons on the side, too.)

and you need to have adequate screening unless you live in a bug free zone.

your floor vent which has been out of the way will now be in a travel path.

anyway, get the big picture of the functionality of sliders vs french and not just the looks.

I'm with Sammy. Might want to think about how heavy much taller doors will be. Even though they "swing", heavy doors with tempered glass (safety) are, well- heavy!

"if it was me" (and its not) and i didnt want the slider any more i'd replace the transom and do a center hinged french door which would solve every problem i mentioned above.

don't get outswing, as your house has the angles, the doors wouldnt nearly fold flat to the house and be sorta hanging there in space.

I would do 91" french doors. They are large, but wow they sure are striking in person!

Eliminating the transom will make the room feel more open. I know it doesn't seem like it will make that big of a difference but eliminating that little bit of framing will be gorgeous.

I can't think of any pressing "cons" to the doors being taller. If you do out-swing, just be aware of windy days catching the taller doors.

With that view I wouldn't change anything that would minimize it. I would keep the current set up. A hinged door will always be in the way of something in a bay.
