The crown was in the soil, but the top of the crown was exposed.

Thanks, Dave and Maria for your suggestions. They are both good suggestions. I think I will just repot it. I would prefer to have a larger pot than two smaller ones. And then in time we'll see what happens.

grab it by the sprout.. and beat the rest on a tree ... or scrape it on the cement or driveway.. and replant ..

sometime certain hosta need to be to to understand who is in charge around here ... and respond nicely to the motivational training ...

btw.. coming out from the bottom is not all that uncommon ...but it must have been a potting issue .. for it to grow out sideways ... that far.. without turning vertical ...

As hard as it is for me to play tough with my hosta, this one needs to learn a lesson! I am not the grabbing, beating and scraping on the cement type. But I'll try my best. Then hopefully some of the smaller buds will grow. After repotting, maybe I should put the Sagae pot beside the garbage can. That might scare it too!
