I would say that expanding the size of the porch and making it a little more covered would help with both curb appeal and function in bad weather.

I think that tree on the right has outgrown its welcome and is covering an nice view of the house. Unless faux decorative shutters are a "must" in the mid-west, I'd remove those. They look so awkward on double wndows. Paint the house a dark charcoal gray and add a roof over the stoop. A flat roof colonial portico is about the only style that could slip in under that upstairs bump-out. You'll need an architect to scale it correctly.

A favorite of mine for style, especially the steps and railing as an added touch you don't usually see. The curves there and in the landscape really soften the blocky proportions of this home.

Totally agree with expanding the porch. It would be more balanced wth the bump out above it. Your double windows are too large for shutters. Enhancing the window trim might be a better option. A garage door with windows would look nice, too. It's a very nice house!

Red is a classic welcoming door color. If you paint the house charcoal, I think a rich eggplant door could look good.
